I read on another forum that earlier this week, they were catching them on shad colored plastics, close to the bottom in 20-30fow, Ive heard from a good source a Junebug colored grub on orange fourescent jigs work well too, I Myself havent had much luck there the 3 times I went this year, but I did miss the spawn! Id find out what launching rams are accessable before You go also. Let U know how You do.
Bite has been pretty good all fall.
Water temp today was 45/46 on the lower end. We never went to the upper end so I don't know what's it is up there. Water color is good and is back down to winter pool. My buddy fished minnows and I fished jigs and we did about equally well. We probably caught 40/50 fish and had 17 we kept.
We fished EFL yesterday. Did OK. Mostly fished minnows and slip bobbers. Best depth was 18-22 feet. Kept 5 for dinner.
Is east fork frozen or can a boat be launched?
I drove down to the ramp at the dam today and no ice in sight.
You have got to be chitin me!!!??? I was there two days ago and went to the camp ground ramp and there was ice AS FAR AS I COULD SEE!!!! Two small openings out in the middle. I watched a boat back through the ice and head out towards the middle breaking through ice that I would figure to be atleast 1/2" thick or more. That's crazy that the lower end would be wide open like that. The entire river mouth was completely locked up.....
Update from yesterday.
I joined EFslabs in the afternoon for a few hours. Everything above the Bantam (Tate Ramp) appeared to be frozen, below (towards dam) was open. There was ice in the backs of the coves. Only the mouth of Slab was open.
Bite was tough for us!
just put the big guy on the bow so the boat wont ride on top of the ice

That used to be a nice boat... :)
Did the same thing coming out of Eagle creek in Ripley. I had just bought my new to me boat and couldn't wait to try it out in my home waters. When I backed into the water, the ice at the ramp was maybe a 1/8" thick. By the time I got to the river(Which was clear of ice), it was 1/2' to 3/4". Once I was out in it could only go forward or backwards. Boat seemed to run fine when i got out in the river. Got it back on the trailer and had tore up the aluminum prop (Got a SS one now), scratched the bottom of the boat up and tore a chunks out of the keel guard. nonono
Will never pull that stunt again.
hell i cant believe yates aint on plane!!!nut job
i was on the way back out
I have always said that a boat is a tool. awesome pictures! Most people wouldn't take there boat out on salty roads but some folks don't mind!!! Look at that windshield!! I love it!! Ive had to rinse the salt out of my boat several times, I never hesitate to take the boat to the water UNLESS its slushy roads. I did that one time, and ill not do that again. what a mess.
I busted through ice the other day to get to the upper end of ef with my glass boat and even guys in there aluminum rigs were looking at me like I was nuts. there wasn't much I wouldn't try to bust through when I had my alum deep v.
Guys new to the site but I stopped by Boar's Head yesterday and drove down to the state park ramp. I could not see any ice at all. Hopefully these next few cold nights have minimal effect and crappie season will be under way!
Yates move up to a real boat!
Looks good big dog!
EF update from yesterday.
Water temps we right around 37 degrees and most of the open water parts of the lake was ice free. Most of the coves still had ice in them. We did play ice breaker in the mouth of a few of the coves but we decided to skip the coves and just fish the main lake. There was still a little ice around some shores but it was mostly broken up so it shouldn't last too long.
The fishing was slow but we did manage some on jigs but they are pretty deep.
What impressed us was the guy out there water skiing. :yikes I've seen him before in winter and someone once told me his goal is to go out skiing at least once every month of the year. He's never there long in the winter maybe an hour or so. I say Kudo's to him he is a guy who really enjoys his sport.
We only fished around 4 hours and it was great just to be out again.
