From what I hear the Stripers are red hot right now. I talked with a fellow from the Midlands Striper Club this morning at Dooleys. He said they were hitting white Bucktails with a stinger ice jig about 18" below the Bucktail. Caught his around the Boy Scout Camp in the AM with cloudy skies. He said once the sun came out they quick hitting on the surface. Watch for gulls feeding to locate schools.
I have not been in awhile so I don't have first hand info, but the area he mentioned is where I fish for crappie and white perch.
He is right on, we killed them there tuesday!
Hopefully the crappie or wp will cooperate, I have no interest at all in stripers..............Don't know why, I just don't care to fish for them.
I didn't either until a buddy fried some for fish tacos and they were outstanding. For some reason I always thought stripers were not good fried. If I had any I made a chowder with them. After learning to can tuna and salmon, I want to try canning Stripers if and when I get any.
Good Luck tomorrow! I wanted to go tomorrow but didn't get done what I needed to do plus wife wants to get the Christmas tree. I'll try for the following day.
Yea that's why I'm not upset. I think the high tomorrow is in the mid 50's and Sunday is 65. But you never know unless you go!
If the fish are bitin that adds about 10* to the temp. If not it feels awfully cold.....HAHA.... I put a new SS prop on the bout several weeks ago and been really wantin to try her out.........
Ray, years and years ago when I lived in the Charleston area Dad would put in the tail race and hang out in front of Rembert Dennis's house and burn up the stripers schooling...........But only did it when they where hot. I was just a kid, but it sure was fun.
Hey Midcarolina what time do you plan on hitting the water? You need minnows? If your going towards the traffic circle, before it turns from 4 to 2 lanes. You will see 2 gas stations on right side go to the 2nd station(I think it's a BP). He has minnows and when I got some the other week he had some blue minnows. He opens at 6.
Not gonna br in a fired up hurry in the morning...prolly head out around 10ish, You talking about the gas stations just down from shore road at the red light?
One is a BP with a red dot store on the side.
Agree that biting fish will warm the day :) Hope you find the fish biting. Looking forward to hitting the water Sunday myself, going to be a great weekend for being outdoors.
No it's further down, you pass that painted rock on the right. Then you pass where you would turn to go to CJ's which I heard they have good food and then it's those 2 gas stations. Maybe Ray can tell us the name of it. I do know India people run it, nice people. Med minnows were $2 a dozen.
Yeah maybe he will chime in............ cause I'm havin a memory skid.........Last place I bought them was at the traffic circle.
Shore Road is the road in front of CJs bait shop. The next road down is Beulah Church road where the two stations are. The 2nd one coming from Lexington is the one Mark is talking about. I always get my minnows and breakfast at Dooley's just out of Lexington, but they are closed on Sundays and I have gotten minnow at the store there. The gas station at the circle also has minnows and I have gotten them there as well as non ethanol gas. Both stations carry non ethanol gas by the way.
For that matter I think CJs also has minnows, it is a well stocked store that also sells firearms and ammo.
Hope y'all have good luck.
When we fish at that end of the lake we usually eat lunch at Price's BBQ which is just down Shore Rd from CJs maybe a mile, there is a church right in the bend across from Prices, easy to spot. They have good fried chicken and fish and BBQ plus some good sides. It is a buffet, less than $10 including drink. They are only open Thurs-Sun, like any good old southern BBQ.
Yea you can but this place is I'm guessing about a mile before it changes to just 2 lanes.
Hey Ray your right that friend of mine did tell me that CJ's sales minnows. Mr. Dooley saved me the other week, the plug for my bait tank was leaking and he was nice enough to open 2 different packs to make sure I got the right size. Super nice people. That would be my 1st stop.
Ok that's where I was thinking......... I live out in the country I come up through Gilbert and come out at the light at those two stations.......... I appreciate the tip I've never stopped at the second store where they sell non ethanol fuel..........And you are right Ray, prices is on the mark! Have you ever tried Belly's BBQ? Their Q is really good but their cole slaw is like world record good............
The road changes from 4 lane to two at the intersection where the two stations are at Beulah Church Rd I believe. Don't remember anything other than CJs back toward Lexington, until you get to the Publix and Bi Lo crossroads. There is a gas station there, but they don't carry any fishing items.
I was having to decide either jigs or minnows Sunday but I knew I was going to eat at Prices. Now I get a curve ball, decisions, decisions Price"s or Belly's LOL!! Where is Belly"s located?
2508 Augusta Rd, Lexington, SC 29072

They are down by the high school.............But I think they are only open Fri and Sat.
Okay Thanks.
Bellys is mostly a take out place, but they have a couple of tables for eat in. Tommy Shealy owned it and recently sold it so I don't know about the food under the new owner. It is across from Lexington High School on US1, a bit out of the way from 378.
It shares a parking lot with the Farmers Shed which is a farmer's market run by Clinton Sease's family. Inside the market is a restaurant that has some of the freshest veggies you will fine anywhere. They have meat and 2 specials with a huge and varied menu that changes daily. They are not open on Sundays and I am not sure if Bellys is open either.
Well started out kinda ruff............ SCE&G #3 is NOT the place to put in by yourself....... I have to dunk my trailer to fenders just below water, open truck door 8" water great!! Get in boat and find the minnow bucket turned over with miners doing the back flip everywhere! rescue them, then turn key and click!:scratchhead Hmmm, I knew the battery was charged, fixed a loose connection and was off............ good thing the weather was cool cause I was steaming!
After I calmed down started picking up a few WP, got into em pretty good threw all the little ones back ended up with 20 in the cooler.
Sure was a lot of striper fisherman out.......... and it ended up being a nice day despite the start.
Sorry to hear you had problems at first but congratulations on your catch. Where did you decide to get your minnows? No crappie? Thanks for the report.
Number 4 ramp is just up a ways from where you were and it is deeper, I believe, than no 3, but I've used both. When I am by myself, I tie a rope to my front cleat and then to the trailer winch and coil the rope on top of the deck so it will peel off. Then I back out, bump the brakes and the boat slides off (trailer slicks) when the boat drifts clear of the back of the trailer I slowly pull forward until I can get the rope off the trailer winch and then tie the boat off while I park the car.
Now getting it back on the trailer at a shallow ramp is another story, especially in the winter, which is why Santa is bringing me a pair of Muck boots for Christmas. What I have done is leave the tailgate on my SUV open and climb through the vehicle to the back side door and get out there, but that is not as easy as it used to be.
Glad you found the perch.
Sinkermaker was probably in his living room enjoying your show at the ramp. His house is just down from ramp 3.
No crappie EMC........... I set up several times over brush with fish on the brush, but couldn't buy a bite with anything I tried............picked up the minnows at the gas station at the light. They had small, Med and biggins............
hit spots from 3 all the way past big mans.............ended up catching most fish just about within site of #3........go figure.
Ray, It's embarrassing, but I am so use to the better half backing me down the landing I didn't even think to use a rope:Doh:
