onix10.....myth or fact

Q.......Does the onix 10 have touch issues? Mine does.so I would have to say fact on this one.
Q..... does the onix 10 have a slow boot time? Mine is slow and it is an issue.so that would be another fact.
Q.......do people have dead spots in there fingers? I really don't no the answer to this one.could be fact or fiction, but I'll say this, there's some spots on my onix, that you could use your finger, foot or elbow and nothing happens.

the onix 10 is the unit that I have, but I have no experience with the hummingbird di core units, so I don't no . I've got the 998 and used it with a rotated transducer to get di .the onix 10 has better di.(the onix is a really good unit, but does have some software issues)

Kosmo didn't you have a 597ci hd di at one point? Though that had a dedicated DI transducer?

Yes, but I don't think that unit would be good unit to compare.
I I think that the 597hd/did is only 640×640 pixels or something close to that.
My 998, using a rotated transducer got quite a bit better images compared to the 597.
The onix 10 gets real good di images.
The reason that started this thread was to let future Onix owners no that under the current version of software, that the onix is using, there's some touch issues.the onix is still a great unit as is.i believe with some tweeks, humminbird will make it even better.

Yea, no problem with the update info . ill probably update soon after the release of the update. (My unit works really good now, but hummingbird can make it better)

Q...can I run 360, si, di and 2nd all at the same time? This is a fact
Q...is it helpful sometimes to have the 360 running along with si and di? My personal experience with this setup is yes this is a fact.i do this setup .I will see things on the si much clearer and out farther than the 360 will allow and also that di will help to

Kosmo......How do you have your network set up?
Can your 998 co-exist on the same network with the Onix?
Can you view the 360 with your 998 and your Onix?

Just trying to figure out if the 360 requires different software for the Onix than if does for the core units. I know the Onix and the core units cannot share waypoints or data, but can they both communicate to the same Ethernet accessory?

Thanks Kosmo.......I think I finally got it.

Once I added the SM3000 and CHIRP transducer all hell broke loose on my 2 Onix units. It's gotten so bad I am not even using the $1600 transducer at the moment. Even when running the all in one I am seeing serious interlacing and missing data on the SI screens. On the other side of the coin, after speaking to the engineers most of these problems will be fixed with the upcoming software release. The engineers will be here this Monday and Tuesday so I will report back after we get the update all loaded up and running.

My main fear is that by the time the unit is sorted out the technology will be completely behind everyone else. Garmin just delivered some of the best features ever seen in a single package. I tested the Garmin 1040xs side by side with the Onix and was blown away by how good the Garmin was. Simrad is way good also, and the Gen3 Lowrance touch is about to hit the market with the same features as the NSS Evo2 Simrad. My Evo2 boots in 28 seconds, pinch to zoom works super fast, and the glare/fingerprints problems are not bad at all.

But again, I am looking forward to Monday...hoping everything will be sorted out.

Something that I heard a lot of was people complaining about having to keep tweeking there hummingbirds to get the best view..ith these onix units I believe that they may of got what they asked for.no tweeking necessary, pretty much turn them on leave on defaults..well that works sometimes but I really like the ability to tweek to get the best out of my unit.
My onix transducer is mounted on the trolling motor were as the 998 is a transom mount.. feel like this could be some of the issue but not all.. I'll post this picture from my 998.this is what I expect from hummingbird si. This is a fact. The reason the unit does that is to limit the 2D from interfering with the 360. Like you said, the core units did it and the Onix does it now.

Before I sold my 1198's I did a lot of side by side comparisons. Main difference between the two units in my opinion was resolution out to the edge of the range. At 150' the Onix was much better than the core units. Had a guide on my boat last Wednesday that has been using his 1198 now forever, pretty much every day, and he confirmed this very quickly. When I did the side by side comparisons both transducers were on the transom.

On another forum, an onix user was wanting to use his bow mount 360 for di at the front of his boat.
He knows now that the onix is not capable of displaying the 360 in di mold, like is possible with the hummingbird core si units.now others no.

I agree, the software slows the pinging.this isn't a prosser issue.this is done for the reason you mentioned.so when people say that the onix prosser is slow, I believe this to be false (myth)

Deil, I'm going to respectively disagree with you on the technloony thing..theres nothing that the other companies are offering that's comparable to the onix/360 combo . of corse ,this is only my opinion, but I now have to have the 360 running almost always. Great information in these comparisons and hats off to those of you trying to provide unbiased oppinions on operational features of these units.

The Garmin Down and Side VU are about the same as the Humminbird, with more range and better resolution. Ok, after reading that I do agree with you (looking at the big picture) but for me , there's nothing else out there..the only thing that would interest me , would be chirp added to the 360.all that other stuff thats being offered by the other brands is meaningless for me, just extra baggage. The 360 is doing what I want.

And I agree with you, big time!!! I went striper fishing yesterday and I didn't get out of the 360 view all day long. I was able to beat the birds when the school changed direction!!

You guys are without question our best Onix/360 beta testers and instructors; many thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I am hoping the expected software update this month will further improve the performance of our Onix/360 set up.
You should make Humminbird Greg pay you both a retainer for doing work that benefit the HB Corp :-)

Here's a interesting fact, that I believe might be overlooked.
Does the onix, using the 360, require the gps/heading sensor puck.
The answer is no.Acually , the 360 will operate without any gps hooked up.
I'm presently using the internal gps from my onix, but later with hook the gps/heading sensor up.
I need the heading sensor for my navigation orientation, fishing ledges while stationary.
GPS alone doesn't do very well while stationary.

It is my understanding the AS GPS HS antenna is needed for waypoint marking on the 360 image ...where the waypoint is different from the GPS antenna present location ...

Yes, you are correct rickie, but as far as using the 360 to view and locate, there no need for a gps

I have always had a 10 gauge wire run from my onix, back to the console, hooked to a buss.. took (doug vahrenberg)advise today and run the 10 gauge from the onix straight back to the battery. The results were very noticable.the onix is now responding much better.i also timed the boot up.i got 1:30...... really don't no if the boot up in proved or not. (I've never checked before now) (BEINGS I NOT ALLOWED TO POST , OVER THERE WERE DOUG IS COULD SOMEONE PLEASE RELAY MY RESULTS) " THANKS DOUG"

Maybe a DC to DC regulator would be in order.

Im running a 10ga wire from the battery to a BlueSea 12 Circuit fuse block. Mine is moving about the same as yours. One thing is I have a dedicated battery for the electronics, so I'm not using the cranking battery for the Onix. Even when I power up the Simrad units the reaction is the same. Sometimes it acknowledges the touches, sometimes it doesn't.

Considering my install was physically looked at by HB folks and given a green light I am scratching my head too Bob. I have 12 ga to dedicated fuse panel, two Onix units at console hooked in via HB power cords and 12 ga to front unit.

This is the install I do for my customers too with zero issues to date.
