Pretty good day on the big O yesterday. Caught twelve last couple hours of daylight. A couple bumped 14 inches. All on jigs and float in 5 fow. Hooked a few good light biters early, but lost em at the boat.

Most creeks are good. If they are good bass creeks they will most likely be good crappie creeks. Marinas and other backwaters are productive too. I usually fish the creeks where I've stuck good crappie while bass fishing. I like to fish channel stumps mostly, but will try anything that looks good. Usually with a jig and quality slip float. Some times I'll jig for em with my long poles. I never use minnows. It slows me down too much. They'll bit shallow all year as long as the water is in decent shape. Most of the popular creeks on the cannelton pool are good. Oil and deer are my favorite. Clover and tar are good also. Start with minnows if u need to get ur confidence up. I never see to many crappie fisherman, so pressure is usually light, and u catch a lot if fatties!
I catfish that area a lot. I put in clover creek. I catch a lot of crappie in the throw net looking for shad in the winter. My buddy has been trying to get me to crappie fish it. Guess it's time to give it a shot.
I used to go to Rough River to bass and crappie fish in the winter. But I've been catching both pretty regular in the Ohio, during the cold months. It's nice, because it saves a lot of gas. Sellersburg to Jeffersonville is a lot cheaper. I still hit Rough a few times each winter. Winter bass fishing on Rough can be pretty good. As long as the river is in decent shape I'll give it a try

Mostly in Harrods and 14 mile. Fish quickly with a jig and keep poking around till u find them
Question fellas..... I crappie fish lakes quite a bit and do well but seem to have to fish deep certain times...... Are you guys saying "no more deep fishing" in creeks because the creeks are shallow?? What if your in a creek that averages 15-20ft deep?? Do u just try and fish the shallow creeks all winter?? I figured crappie would travel out of the shallow creeks in search of deeper water??
Never fished deep in the river, except for spotted bass in the summer. I'm sure some fish go deep, but I always catch some shallow. I think the fish in the creeks have everything they need. I really don't believe they leave. Most creeks have an abundance of bait all year. Oil creek, for an example, is about 12 ft in the channel. It goes on like this for a long ways. I've never fished more than 3 ft for crappie. They will be in just about any creek, marina, slough, bay, and other backwater that has baitfish. One marina I fish is 4 ft deep at the most. Caught 30 in there last January 1st. Another is devoid of cover, and about 5 ft deep, but plenty of shad. It's full of nice crappie. Bass fishing is the same. River fishing = shallow fishing. I wouldn't fish flats right now. I would concentrate on channel bends and channel timber. Jig or minnow. Your choice.
Good luck. There's lots of 12-13in fish in there. I fish Rough river and Nolin the same way in the winter. Just keep going till the water gets scarce and find some deeper banks. Good luck

Very good info, sir. I would add that some of the deeper creeks will definitely hold fish at deeper depths. I haven't fished deeper than 12', but have caught them from there on up.
