Which type of line do you prefer when casting lures for crappies??
The most I use for jigs is Hi-vis mono. Casting braid comes with it's issues but will cast a light lure, or any lure, farther than any other line. And it floats. Worth a try but it would be best if the first time was on a calm day.
I mainly use Trilene XL clear - doesn't really fall into the above.
I'm sold on braid with a fluorocarbon leader. I use spinning reels exclusively. As far as casting issues, early on I discovered how easily braid will twist and this starts as soon as you spool it. This issue is overcome by spooling, then dragging line behind the boat to completly empty the spool then rewind on spool while line is free and wet. Sometimes it is amazing to see how much twist is in that last 50 feet of line.
Part of the reason I use a leader is I use a high quality barrel swivel between the braid and leader which after starting this practice has eliminated all of my issues with braid.
Even my slip bobber rigging gets a swivel. Bobber is on the braid and with the swivel, lost bobbers are a thing of the past. Finding a good bobber stop is a bit trickier because braid is slick. I have found that a little beeswax on the string for the bobber stop provides enough extra power to reduce the slipping
I use Trilene XL 6lb. clear mono or Sufix 6lb mono in a bright color. I use spinning reels and ultralight 5'6" rods.
I use Trilene XL clear or Bass Pro Excel clear.
High vis mono
P-Line best line out there! !!!

Voted for braid but should of had a hi-vis braid option on the poll.
Fireline solar 4# - no leader.
gama 8 lb hi vis--excellent line-breaks at 16 lb and diameter of 6 lb
So from what I've read most use hi vis or braid tied directly to lure since they aren't line shy
Tried about every type of line but I always end up going back to Trilene XL.For casting I use 6 lb fluorescent .
4# Stren clear for jigging and 8# for trolling. Didn't vote because you dont have mono there.
4lb.hi vis yellow suffix elite
Seaguar 6 lb. fluorocarbon
I'm a big fan of Fireline and have been for many years. For crappie I have 2 rigs with 2# test Crystal (1/32 - 1/16 oz. jigs) and one rig with 4# test Crystal (1/8 oz. jigs). These three rigs also have a 3' - 4' length of fluorocarbon leader, joined with the Alberto knot. The "whiteness" of this braid is very visible, yet even with this light test ratings, it's very strong. 100% of break-offs involve the leader and not the main line.
Now the reason I favor this light test braid is that it casts beautifully with my 7' - 9' SHSS rods and we are fishing very open water, with few brush piles to worry about. The reason for the fluoro leader is for abrasion resistance and the occasional toothy critter we encounter in this neck of the woods. BTW, I've never had this Alberto knot fail - most break-offs occur at, or very near the jig.
BPS Excel clear in 6 lb.
STREN, ORIGINAL CLEAR BLUE FLORECENT 6 /4 LB. TEST .:twocents
Vanish 6# test
I like trilene original or silver thread an40 4 lb test
I like the hi viz yellow, it helps me see the line better.
Ironsilk or Hi Viz mono
Yo-zuri 4lb smoke fluorocarbon Hybrid breaks at 8LB
Hi Vis mono 4# for casting and bobber fishing and 6# for spider rigging. I quit using 100% flourocarbon last year, way to much line twist with My spinning reels, no matter what I tryed, I may try some braid for Bass though
Copolymer is the best mono line for spinning and the best copoly is Gamma in either ultra clear or high vis. Stretches less, super abrasion resistance. limp, low memory and unreal break strength for the diameter. That being said a super close second is Sufix Promix. It's also copoly and it's way cheaper than Gamma. Gamma is awesome but honestly Promix is my favorite line. I've used it so much and it has been bulletproof for me. Love that stuff. Overall Gamma is the best, but dollar for dollar Promix is better. Either one will serve better than any other mono.
Mono high viz mostly. If clear line is needed Berkley spin cast 4# best I’ve ever used ! Just be sure it’s fresh on what ever you choose I have wasted lots of money on some of the brands that’s been spoken highly of that’s got trashed because of breaking way too easy some breakingon hook sets ! Have ended up going back to fresh roll of Mr crappie or Vicious 4-6# Just can’t be beat. best for the money when fresh!
Nanofil for the last couple years 4# test most of the time.
