Got news that larry russel had passed this morning...not much on details yet
Hadn't heard this until now. Didn't know him but bought stuff over the web from him. Sad.
OH GOD, NO!!!!!!
Heart attack, is my guess
Nice man. I met him the first and last time the weekend of Nov when we went camping and stopped by his store to buy jig heads and wasshopas. Very cordial and gracious individual.
Guys Larry went in for surgery 4 days ago for an obstruction in his bowels. Surgery went ok from what I can get but he never woke up. Passed this morning. It's a sad sad day. Larry was such a sweet spirited man and will diffently be missed in the Crappie World. I am a better person today for having Larry and Janice in my life. He was a Great Friend, Husband, Father, and Person.....Ranger
This is very sad news. Larry will be greatly missed. He always treated me as if I was one of his own every time I went in. My thoughts and prayers go out to Janice and family.
Funny thing is I was in Cabela's in Rogers Ark this past Saturday and I told my oldest that Larry's jig head were being sold there.
Prayers sent! He was the nicest man, as Jiggin said above, he always treated me like a long lost relative. Sad day.
I guess I knew Larry for close to 20 years. He was one of the finest men that I have known. He was a great friend to the crappie fishermen and to children.
I was very saddened by this news. I have known Larry for many years also. I store my RV right behind their shop and visited with him frequently. He will be missed by many. Prayers sent for the family.

I don't know Larry but, from all the above he must have been a very good man! We should all try to live life like he did and pass peacefully when our time comes.
RIP
X2, all of the above. Prayers Sent
RIP Prayers for his family and friends.
Ranger - Have you heard when the funeral will be? I expect Tuesday or Wednesday.
Hadn't heard anything yet
Prayers for his family. Didn't know Larry, but I lost my uncle, who took me hunting and fishing all the time when I was a lad, in a similar fashion: minor surgery at age 43, and then gone.
That's very sad. Larry was a great guy, a good businessman and truly loved the sport of crappie fishing. He will be greatly missed. He always had a "New", "Hot" or "Secret" bait for you to try out.
LOL, he was so generous
Just a Picture of the last time we went fishing in one of his favorite places. Gaines Creek on Lake Eufaula. Fishing with Larry, his son, son n law, and Gr'Son great memories and time......Ranger
Great pics Ranger. Looks like a great time you guys had. Gaines Creek is my favorite place to fish. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Ranger, that brought a smile to my face .
It was a great time with very good friends. There were 4 of them so EB and I teamed up for this trip. We kinda had a lol bet going on for the first fish so I headed for a stump I found by accident (hitting it with my boat) a few weeks earlier that I had caught numberous fish off of. Larry's Gr Son caught the first fish after missing several and the hollering began. I think it was something like a $5 bet between boats and Larry. It was a great time I will never forget and lots of fish caught. After several hours they all swapped boats and I headed to some standing timber that had always been good to me and had the pleasure holding the boat in position and watch Larry catch one crappie after the other off just 2 trees. Again memories I will never forget........Ranger
I will miss him greatly, I always loved stopping by to see him and Janice every time I would get close to Texanna Rd.
me too, I bought stuff even if I did not need it just to visit with him.
Now when I pass along Texanna Road, I will feel sadness instead of happiness............ RIP Larry
Larry Russell was one of the nicest guys I had ever met, 13 years ago when I started to guide crappie fishing he took me in and helped me out with baits for my trips. We built a very good relationship and I'm going to miss him very much. I want to hope and pray that there is crappie fishing in heaven and that he is dippin a wasshoppa 3 inch stump bug next to a big stump up the creek getting his arm broke. This was one of his favorite things to do and I was able to enjoy this with his many summer days up the creek. I've had many positive influences in my life over the years in the world of crappie fishing. Larry was a great example of how to treat people right. He will be missed, Love you Larry. Brian
For those of you that have asked and sent many messages....There will not be a public service for Larry. So with that said remember him as the last time you saw his smiling face, caring demeanor, gentle attitude toward all, and love for the crappie world, friends, and family. RIP my friend till we meet again.......Ranger
Will be missed by many!! Too many good things to say about Larry and his family and I sure will miss him...
I am the son-in-law, and the family appreciates all of the kinds words.
I remember the first time I met Larry when I was just first dating his daughter. She arranged for us to meet, where else but at the fishing house at Lake Humphrey. We crappie jigged and got to know each other, which lead to many, many other fishing trips. I got to enjoy catching lots of crappie with Larry over the last 25+ years, from the old arrowhead dock, to deep water summer fishing, to his favorite way with a long rod and jig.
The trip with Ranger and EB will always be special since due to his declining health it was the last fishing trip my son and I got to go with him on. Many Thanks for those memories! Don't think my son ever collected that $5 thought.LOL
If you ever fished with him, you know once you caught one, he wasnt shy about moving in right next to you and always wanted to know "how deep and what color".
Thanks again everyone
Kris
I met Larry and Janice at an OKC tackle show years ago, then when I moved to the lake and started in the tackle business Larry helped me add his product line to offset the tubejigs....a big push and they were off the pegs. We had many a fun day on the water with Larry and Janice we often stopped by their home and shop to drop off fresh veggies and swap fishin tales. He always had a personality that was warm and kind to all. You will be truly missed my friend , my the God of peace be with you and your family. The Shanks Family.
Amen, Leland. Good to hear from you again.
I was sure saddened when Brian called me Friday. I echo the statements made on here. I always enjoyed stopping in and visiting with Larry and Janice even if I didn't need anything. Larry would always find something that he thought I needed to try. He would come from the back with a little sack of goodies and say try these. Gonna miss visiting with him. Prayers for Janice and the rest of the family.
Odie
Sorry to hear. I never knew him till I read these posts. Sounds like a great man.
My condolences and prays to the family.
Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends.
Bobo
Odie - Larry did the same for me
Thoughts and prayers to the Russel family.
His jig-heads and plastics equated to a ton of success both on the tournament trail and pleasure fishing, and I'll be wearing my CrappiePro logo with a new meaning in the upcoming season and hope to bring a Classic home in his honor! I'll be thinking of him every time I tie on a jig... and that's a heck of a way to be remembered! See you on Lake Heaven Larry!!
Prayers sent for the Russell Family. Sorry for your great loss.
Does anyone know if Janice is going to keep the business going?
