MT a bust
WINDY! MUDDY! NO bites. Fished about 1 1/2 hours at the most. It was miserable. Could only see about an inch in the water. Crappie would need to blindly swim into the minner to find it. Took long way home and stopped at Osage River. Husband caught a 3 3/4 lb hybrid bass, a couple of dink bass and bluegill. I caught a 13" smallmouth on minners. Couple of dink bass and a white bass in cranks. Catching on Mark Twain isn't going to get better until it clears up and then it may be to late in the year. We aren't going back up this year.

only fished MT a handful of times but I know that lake gets muddy like no other

What area of the lake were you fishing? Was thinking about going up Wed.

Thanks Maybe I'll go North

The water will be clearer the closer you get to the dam. I have a lot better luck at the dam end of the lake. I know a lot of guys swear by south fork, but the water is so muddy there in comparison. This is just one old man's opinion.

Middle was dirty, North wasn't terrible.... Ran down the lake a bit and found decent clarity. Water temp averaged in the low 60's, should pulled cranks (hindsight) as we marked tons of suspended fish. Need that water in the 50's to get em goin! Lots of open water left in the season (me thinks anyway).

Thanks for the report U.. Going to hit it Wed.

I was hoping the water would be a little cooler after the chilly weather we just had.
-
South Fork is probably the muddiest fork in the lake.

Went Wed. Caught lots of fish but only one keeper a big fat 12 incher. Put in at 107 ramp and started on the north bank trees just east of the ramp. Caught a few dinks. Moved to the big cove on the south side of the lake just before the South 107 Bridge. Caught some more dinks. Had a bad trolling motor battery so we went back to the ramp and switched batteries. Went to Shell Branch and caught a lot but dinks again. Headed back to the ramp and fished the cove there. Again a lot of dinks but that is where we caught the keeper. Did not see a lot of shad anywhere we went.
Water Temps 54 to 57. You could see a Blk/Chart jig about 3 to 4 inches deep. All fish caught on jigs with a crappie nibble.
Maybe this big cold snap coming will move the shad into the creeks and coves.
I read on the South Fork website where someone posted he was fishing some of the same areas we were and he limited out. I guess we weren't holding our mouths right.
