Great shots, very clear. I think the algae on the pvc is what you "see" in the return, not the pvc. Any air trapped in the pvc will show up as well or metal will show up as well.
Nice pictures.
Excellent pictures, Gene. I have seen,in person,a lot of good shots from your 998.
But did you catch any fish off it? I know my 987c has been fun finding stuff like that for sure.
Pete
Pete, wife caught this one off the one with 2d and SI ,it was 14 3/4 inches,we caught many off that one,you can see the fish in it,
The other one was also 14 3/4 inch but she caught it on another pile that is not on there, both caught last week
Genec those are some great DI shots. What software version are you running on your 998?
Nice pics!!
Those are some bang on shots.
If Kos said so, v7.09 I'd bet.... :highfive
Nice!!
genec those fish are holding tight in that cover. I see this due to the weather or time of day a lot. Do you remember if you were coming into or out of a front, I see that she had a jacket on in one shot with clouds and the other shirt and sun. Did they ever break off the cover some? thx for the shots
SLABBACKS,FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS THEY HAVE BEEN TIGHT IN THE COVER,YOU ONCE IN A WHILE SEE A FEW UP OVER AND AROUND THE COVER,I CAST AND DRAW A FEW OUT BUT LATELY MOST HAVE COME FROM JIGGING IN THE BRUSH,WITH THIS WATER COOLING DOWN I THINK MORE WILLMOVE ON TOP OF COVER.WHEN I JIG OVER THEM I SEE SCHOOLS OF SHADS WHICH ARE MANY NOW COME OVER THE PILES AND I SEE THE FISH COME OUT OF THE BRUSH AND HIT THE SHADS AND GO BACK DOWN MOSTLY NEAR THE BOTTOM THEN,I WHAT THEM ON 2D INSIDE THE BRUSH AS THEY COME UP,I ALSO SEE THEM COMING UP OUT OF BRUSH AND HIT JIG,MY WHAT COLOR HAS DONE TO 2D WHEN U ADJUST UNIT RIGHT,I KNOW I DON'T NEED TO TELL U BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN SOME OF YOUR 2D PIC
Thx for the info genec, I know just enough to realize I don't know much at all :Rofl Always enjoy learning from you all...why do you think the 2D comes in like that :ThumbsUp
I like 'em Gene ...
Those DI shots are better than any I've ever captured on my 1197 ...
:ThumbsUp
Rickie
RICKIE,I GOT THE IDEA FROM YOU GUYS TO MAKE IT A TRUE DI BY TILTING A EXTRA DUCER THAT I GOT FROM KOMOS,THANKS GUYS. SLABBACK, BY THE FISH SINGALS BEING HARDER THAN THE OLD BRUSH I CAN SEE THE YELLOW STREAKS AS THEY MOVE UP AND DOWN IN THE BRUSH,NEW BRUSH IS TOO THICK AND HARD TO PICK THEM OUT
Hope you don't mind genechttp://i826.photobucket.com/albums/z...pse14fd447.png.....60DEGREES
komos ,I like all in put you guys give, thanks. rickie,i got it from komos,it looks like a 998 ducer
Gene, there been a lot of interest showing up on the Internet about your rotated transducer.
I've seen were there's at least two others fixing there version of di on a si unit.
I think this is great.its getting other to think about how there units operate and gives them an opportunity to experiment a little.way to go!!!!!!
I want to show two pictures that I have, of the same structure.one is from my onix 10.the other, my 998, with a rotated transducer. .

genec, is the snapshots with a 998c SI transducer tilted 60 degrees? Do you have a picture?
KOMOS BOTH ARE GREAT PIC,BUT THAT ONIX IS THE BEST I SEEN THUS FAR. MY 998 ALWAYS HAD GOOD DI BUT I KEPT SEEING THOSE GREAT PIC THAT THE LOWRANCE WAS GETTING AND I SAID THAT HUMMINBIRD WITH ONE STRAIGHT DOWN DUCER WOULD DO JUST AS GOOD AND I THINK I AM RIGHT. RDJJ,YES IT IS TILTED LIKE THE PIC THAT KOMOS HAS JUST POSTED A FEW PIC BACK.IT IS NOT HARD TO SET UP
RDJJ,IF YOU WANT ME TO TAKE A PIC OF DUCER ,I WILL,FORGOT TO MENTION THAT
How do you wire it up, are you running 3 XDCRs total??
Split off 2D then one HDSI tilted and one HDSI"regular"??
Pics would be cool.
The HB HB TS3 switch allows the use of 2 separate xducer's on 1 head unit ...(the article makes it sound like the switch comes with the DI xducer setup ... But that is not true ... The HB TS3 switch is separate accessory)...
-------------
-------------
The normal oriented HDSI xducer would be connected to the "line thru" leg of the HB TS3 switch ...
The "rotated 60° xducer (or a dedicated DI xducer) would be connected to an additional 2d xducer with the AS SIDB Y cable ...
The AS SIDB Y cable would be connected to the "switch powered" leg of the HB TS3 switch ...
Rickie
Guys, I'm now using a XTM-9-WIDE-DI-20-T, on my trolling motor. I only use one FF 998c SI as I have a stick steer boat and use the older TS2 switch to go from bow to stern. Do you think the SI at 60 degrees would give me a better picture? I also have a 360 on the TM.
Same brushpile in all 3 shots below ...
Stock XHS 9 HDSI 180 T "DI from SI" ...

HDSI rotated 60°

The HDSI rotated 60° seems a little better ... But not by much over the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T ...

Rickie
Thanks for the snapshots Rickie, from your testing I'm not sure it's worth the trouble to mount the SI ducer at 60 degrees. I'm happy with the DI wide but always looking from a better image.
Genec, I think those are the best DI pics I've seen from a Humminbird SI unit. I would like to point out a small problem. Where the coordinates should be I'm just seeing black on your pics. If I was able to see the numbers, I would be able to go and do a comparison screen shot with my own unit. No way would I ever drop a jig down in such awesome cover.:biggrin
If one already has an AS SIDB Y cable ... (And in your case already having an extra "Dual Beam" piezo in the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T)... And you're willing to modify the AS SIDB Y cable ...the test setup is pretty simple...
1. Remove the "Left SI" pin in the AS SIDB Y cable ...
http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/r...psb4bd5280.jpg
2. Plug the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T into the "Side Imagng" leg of the AS SIDB Y cable ...Rotate 60° ...
3. Plug the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T into the "Dual Beam" leg of the AS SIDB Y cable ...
This will make the "Right SI" piezo dedicated and pointing straight down ...
And the "Dual Beam" leg of the AS SIDB Y cable will only connect the 2d piezo in the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T ...
If you don't like the results ...the AS SIDB Y cable is the only thing that was modified ...
Rickie
Thanks Rickie, I'll give that some thought but with fall fishing coming on I may wait till the dog days of summer.
Seems like this thread is still getting a lot of attention, so I thought that I'd add some more rotated si transducer pictures....http://i826.photobucket.com/albums/z...pse08e82fd.png[/URLhttp://i826.photobucket.com/albums/z...psc4f3450e.png[/URLhttp://i826.photobucket.com/albums/z...psbede7a41.png[/URLhttp://i826.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps268147da.png
there is another way to set this up, that hasn't been mentioned. The TS3 switch is optional as mentioned, but one could also setup two , up to five si units, all sharing si, si with di from si, and dedicated di.all units must be network ed via the 5 port ethernet switch
(Add a 360 to this setup and well, things get really kool.if your not careful, you won't have time to fish)
GOOD PIC KOMOS
