glad you were able to get out..... I just don't know how to fish that open water.....I need a stump to throw next to.....I been in South Louisiana too long I guess.....
Attachment 176225this pic was supposed to be there also. It's a limit for me. Thumbs up.
Forgive the ignorance, but what kind of fish is that? Shape reminds me of a speckled trout, but the color doesn't seem right to me.
Called a white trout, Also have heard them called sand trout. Lived at Grande Isle as a kid every summer. Caught thousands of them. Meat is soft and does not freeze well, but okay to fry fresh, just can't handle them much or they get mushy and fall apart.
When stationed in Corpus Christi back 69/70 we caught them like that also. Some folks ate them I didn't think the were near as good as Specks. And we only caught them in the bay itself. Never caught one on the flats or intercostal.
Danny is right, we call them sand trout and I do eat them! I actually prefer them over specks. They don't have the worms in them that specks do.
Nice pics! There's no minimum length. Did you fish the new reef? I'd like to check it out soon. I miss those waters.
No minimum length and no quantity limit! If you find one you can usually find more. My dad, me and a buddy set on a cut coming out of the marsh years ago and caught probably 100 or more of them! Most of them don't get real big (about the size of the one you are holding) but if you can find some deeper water you can find some bigger ones.
At the East Coast of Florida Locals call them Yellow Mouth Trout. The best Bait for then is chunks of Blue Crab. If you find an area loaded with Crab they will be there looking for a free meal
