Haven't been over for a few months but planning on an all day trip tomorrow. Anyone fished it lately? Heard it was slow, and with this weather on top of it who knows what will bite. Anyone else wanna join in? Room for plenty of boats :biggrin

Usually only fish that lake in the winter around the heated dock would be nice to get out there in open water let me know when you are going if you want! I fish on weekdays mostly.
Good luck, planning fishing in the morning myself. I hope the fish are as eager as me.
Any luck?:biggrin
Didn't make it to Marion, had some stuff come up and stayed home. Went to Bennington on Sunday to troll for eyes and only caught one 14", so decided to go after slabs for a bit before I left and only hauled in 5. Pretty slow! I'm going to blame the weather :)
Trolling cranks?
I went to the heated dock earlier this week for about 3 hours. I was using banana jigs, and didn't get a single bite. There was 2 guys the were using small plastic skirted jigs (white skirts), that caught some crappie. I didn't see any real big ones, but they had about 15 the were about 10 - 12 inches. I didn't have anything like what they were using, but kept trying different things that I had, with no luck.
every thing I have seen there the last 2 yrs has been small
Talked to a guy who fished there Monday said he caught a limit, using dark colored bass Assassins. He is a good fisherman so I tend to believe him. He said fished inside and outside caught most inside.
I guess I should have been there Monday. I was there Tue, Wed, & Thursday, and caught some each day. I changed to a different style jig on Wednesday, and did a lot better. The jig on the bottom right, and second from the bottom right turned out to work best. Caught about 5 bluegill using a banana jig.
Any of you guys know where to buy some of those tiny banana jigs they sell at the baitshop down there at other places. I remember them telling me they are custom made by a guy here in kansas and don't make it down there very often.
I couldn't find any here in Wichita so I bought several on ebay - That was a couple years back and I just checked and there's a bunch on ebay.
Have searched for them there before and didn't find them there but tried again today and got some. Ended up having to use search words. 1/64 oz. Ice fishing jigs.

If anyone else is interested these guys are great for catching bull gills, crappie and largemouth in the winter tipped with meal worms or waxes. Thanks Drfishduck!
The guy that makes them is from Potwin, KS. The bait shop in Derby (Outback bait) did carry them.
I think I've got some unpainted ones yet.... Shoot me a message if you're interested. I can paint them quite a few colors.
I think Zeiners has some bigger ones in Wichita. I don't recall them being 1/64.
Yah that's been the problem finding the smaller ones. Think the smaller ones work good cause the fishes metabolism slows in cold water and they like the smaller meals.
We bought a huge package of 200? or so 1/64 banana jigs from Zeiner's in Wichita last year and had a fun painting party. Ok it wasn't that fun, but the fumes made it that way :Rofl
Thinking I might go down this Friday and give it a whirl. I also heard the same report about the 17th, lots of fish caught that weekend, then the bite died. From the way it sounds it picked up again late last week and fell off again over the weekend.
Wiggy how much time do you get off for Christmas? Thought maybe we could hookup and hit the heated dock over break? Maybe get Skinner to go along!
Sounds like a plan, I have the week between Christmas and New Year's off and was planning on going at some point
Would be game going out of state the few days right around Christmas day other than that might be able to.
Let me know. Would love to meet you all.
Yes, I would be game as well for a meet sometime over the holiday break. Sounds like a fun time.
Keep us informed me and Chief might make it.
Might as well call it Winter Kansas Crappie Camp. Would be cool to fish with all you guys!
