My son came down and spent the night last night. Cook him and wife up a mess of crappie filets. Then he and I hit Black Lake this morning at 7am to 9:30 am and pulled out 34. He enjoyed it so much said he was coming back next week after the cool snap. Any way here is a pic of them, all caught on gray ghost 8-9 fow about 4-5 feet down. No shiners killed.

Nice catch :ThumbsUp I'm from Natchitoches, when I was young my father would take me to Black lake and we would load the the boat with schooling bass. I miss those days

Really nice mess of fish for a couple of hours on the lake. I would bet that no one on crappie dot com has the ability to catch as many fish as you do with just one color jig. You are a great supporter of the gray ghost jig and it is obvious that you really know how to use it. Way to go!!!!
SPORTCITY don't see any reason to change em when it is catching fish. Best jig I ever fished for Black Lake. I've tried em all down there and it beats em hands down. 81 fish in three trips says it all. When it stops catching I'll try another jig, but til then it stays on the end of my line.Quote:

I bought some a while back and have only had once chance to try it out. Wasn't a great fishing day for anyone I talked to, but I did manage to pick up several with the gray ghost. Only thing I got them to bite on, so I'll agree that it seemed pretty effective on my first attempt. Hatten you should have said something. I would have given you a couple of jig to fish with. Yes that was when my mother in law was in ICU and wasn't that your Mom in there then. You do need to get some of the jigs as it is the best you can use on Black Lake. If you see me down there just yell at me and we'll talk fishing a while. Plan on hitting it again this week after the cool snap goes through. It is going to be nice last three days of the week is what they are saying.
That was what I was using, but before I left I lost the two I had. I'm still learning to crappie fish as I mostly bass fish. I was fishing to deep, was fishing about 1' to 2' of bottom. I ordered some more today, went ahead and got two more packs of the gray ghost and two packs of different colors.
It was my mother in law there too, she ended up passing away on Valentine's Day.

We are having too many medical problems right now. Heart stents, shingles and torn rotator cuff. Neither of us has purchased a fishing license this year. Dealing with cardiac rehab and just trying to get to feeling better right now. Hope you guys have a great time over at the Bone!!!!
No better lake than Black Lake. Im from South LA, but we've hunted up there my whole life and Im 25. Used to stay at Blake Lake Lodge until it burnt down, now we stay at Chandlers. Never really got to fish much there... never wanted to tote the boat that far.
