crappie fishing success

In your opinion, what is the single most important component to crappie fishing? Just one answer!

If fishing from a boat.... Trolling Motor

knowlege = time on the water.
Use to load the boat using just a flasher.
Fished out of a converted try hull with a week trolling motor ,still loaded the boat.
just go fishin.

Everything touched on so far has to be in place and understood and evaluated to make it all work plus many others not touched on. Trying to define one most important opens the door as to why many must fall into place. Crappie fishing is ever evolving so no single component will always be the answer.

I asked a guy that was good and he said "going" consistently for the particular season and conditions that are current. Then "patterning" based on any type of success that you are having. One leads to the other!

Having fun doing it.

Knowing the seasonal patterns for the lake your fishing ( and obviously I don't know this as my lack of success shows)

Wife...that's my word. Without a happy wife none of us will be fishing. Tip to more fishing time in my house...take the wife off the mortgage and pay for the house yourself. Pay for all maintenance yourself and you're "honey do" list is gone forever.

Dynamite - nonono After all it's a Blast catching crappie.
Electronics - Unfortunately, I can't say if I got a strike on it or not when I dropped my cell phone in the drink----forgot to put it on the hook.
Minnows- esp. wearing skimpy "minnowswimwear" ............ really gets a crappie's attention.
Colorful Jigs- what crappie would resist a jig dancing on a fiberglass pole, esp. one tipped with minnow (dressed as noted above).
A Towable floating bait store - so we'd have that "special" ------- Lavender-and-Pearl-split-faced, latex-dipped, twirly-tail, watchamacallit-gizmo

I guess it has to be the DEPTH the fish are holding.

Time…
Time on the water, time in different conditions, time of year… Time fishing is the key to all of the above.

Good one slabby joe, if I go to a new lake and talk to a crappie fisherman that is the only thing i ask, I dont ask for where to go or where they have been having success or what they are using, I want to now the depth to target then use maps and electronics to locate structure around that depth range. That has seemed to be a good starting point for me. i dont rule out other depths because it seems you can locate crappie shallow, mid depth, or deep on some lakes i fish year around. I have found most fisherman are willing to give you that info without feeling like you are being intrusive.

Best thing for crappie fishing is someone that knows where they're at. Haha

Fishless Dan deserves the credit on my answer ....he opened my eyes to how important this aspect is to finding and catching crappie.
