Bryozoan colony. Fairly common.
We see them here often in the summer in quite backwaters. Kinda weird looking.

we got them up here in IN.
grobur tagged it right. That's a very large one. Fish feeding on it causes it to take on a round shape. It is in the animal family and feeds on plankton.
Black Lake out of Campti has them all around the bridge.
I thought it was garfish eggs. Shows you what I don't know. :puke

LOL My Grandma in Mississippi back in the 70s called them water moss because we thought they were some sort of plant. Learn something new everyday on here.
