Lake Greeson Fall Crappie Camp Set For October 9 - 12

Lake Greeson Fall Crappie Camp is set for Thursday, October 9th through Sunday, October 12th. We're still in the planning stages and we're open to suggestions.

We'll have a Big Fish Contest on Saturday with a nominal entry fee. All proceeds will be paid out to the winner(s). And of course we'll have a Pot-luck Fish Fry Saturday evening.

Space will be made available for jig-makers or crappie fishing tackle manufacturers that want to demonstrate their products and offer them for sale. Please let us know you're coming and bring your own tables.

I plan to go "scouting" every morning that week and will have space available in my boat for Crappie Campers that want to tag along. Please reserve your spot on the boat with Wendy.

Self Creek Lodge and Marina is extending a 20% discount off their usual off-season rates on their awesome cabins for Crappie Campers. They also have guest boat slips that are available with or without a cabin rental and they will have plenty of rosy red minnows and shiners.

For those that want to camp, the entrance to Daisy State Park is a few hundred yards east of the motel, Jim Wylie Campground is about a half-mile west of the motel and Self Creek Campground is just over a mile west of the motel. Daisy State Park has two boat ramps and a C.O.E. boat ramp is less than a mile west of the motel.

We have a 2,100 sq ft Conference Center at the Daisy Motel now that will be great for our fish fry and gatherings anytime anyone wants to hang out during Crappie Camp.

So when did Crappie Camp become a financially motivated event? I thought it was supposed to be about meeting other people that love the sport, not just a promotion strategy to fill rooms at someone's new hotel?

We will have both Men's and Women's Divisions and the entry fee will be 10 bux/person. All entry fees will be paid out in prizes with 60% for First Place and 40% for Second Place in each division. We will also have BnM poles and other prizes for the winners.

Registration will be from 6:00am to 7:00am at the Conference Center at The Daisy Motel. Registration closes at 7:00am - NO LATE REGISTRATIONS! Please pay with cash and have exact change. We'll have free ice for ice-chests/live-wells and coffee and donuts during registration for all Big Fish Contest registrants.

Only Black Crappie, White Crappie and Hybrid Crappie are eligible to weigh in and the crappie must be caught out of Lake Greeson by the registered contestant between 7:00am and 2:00pm on the day of the contest using legal methods. Crappie entered must be in live or very recently deceased condition when brought to the weigh-in.

Weigh-in will be at The Daisy Motel Conference Center at 2:00 on Saturday afternoon.

How many Crappie Camps have you organized, Cmj? The Crappie Camps that I've organized on Lake Greeson and the few Crappie Tournaments that I've attended, have always been about promoting crappie fishing and the businesses, organizations and government agencies that support and/or benefit from crappie fishing. I believe that even Crappie.com owner, Ed Moes, felt like Crappie.com might benefit when he's attended our Crappie Camps and I doubt that any of the companies like BnM Pole Company, Arkie Jig Company, TTI Blakemore and the like would donate their products to such events if they didn't believe their companies would benefit financially.

Fall Crappie Camp On Lake Greeson welcomes anyone that is interested in crappie fishing, whether or not they reserve a room at The Daisy Motel. And, by the way, the Daisy Motel has been around since the Little Missouri River was dammed up to form Lake Greeson and I've been at the motel for about a year and a half.

Calm down everyone. Jerry is a stand up guy and holds a great crappie camp. He's held these events before even when he has not owned a motel, so there's certainly no ill intention here on anyones part. I just wish I could attend, but I already had plans to be at MS camp that weekend.

I'm sorry, that's KY camp that weekend (oct 11) . MS camp (oct 18) is the weekend after KY camp. I had previously committed to those camps (got reservations done up and all).

Thanks, Ed. I wish I would have started planning this sooner so you could have made plans to come here. Maybe you can swing by here on the way to or back from one of the other get-togethers and we can snatch up a few crappie.

Dang Jerry! If you would have had this posted earlier I would have loved to come down and fish Greeson. That lake is still on my bucket list. Like Ed said, made reservations for KY and MS already. :dono

Jerry, I've always wanted to attend one of your camps on Greeson, but unfortunately I will be in Florida that weekend. I plan to come stay at the Daisy Motel and fish with you as soon as I can work it out. Thank you for doing this!

Man !!! Sure wish I could attend...but already committed to fishing the CACA Championship that weekend. We also sure could use a Spring Camp Pres...Jerry for next spring. For those that are bringing prepared food that needs to be refrigerated, just bring it by the Conference Center (Thursday, Friday or Saturday morning) and we'll put it in the fridge until eatin time.

Let us know what you plan to bring so we don't have all cole slaw and no tater salad!!! :) We have a small convection oven if anyone wants to bring bake-able french fries, dinner rolls or anything that needs baked or warmed up in an oven.

I've got the hush puppies covered.

I have a wide assortment of Camp stuff like nametags drawing tickets, paper plates cups plastic wear condiments serving pans table cloths and stuff from spring camp if somebody wants to get them from me I would be glad to pass it along to you all. All boxed up and ready to go to the next camp. Just let me know.

Wendy and I went out to this evening to watch the sunset and warn the crappie about Crappie Camp. The only one that could hang on all the way to the top from 24-feet deep was this 17.25-inch/2-pound, 3-ounce female:

The water temps are still in the mid-80s but we're supposed to have lows in the 50s and highs in the 80s most of next week. If that trend continues the Fall Feeding Frenzy will be on by Crappie Camp time.

We did a little scouting for Fall Crappie Camp this morning and caught one that was 16-inches/1-pound,14-ounces, over 20-eaters and a nice channel catfish.

They were all 20-22-ft deep and hit very small Rosy Reds and Shiners.
