What is the second one, don't want the first one.
Rapala Lithium Rechargeable. Battery so far has been great, and not having to worry about cords, so you can fillet anywhere is a plus. It's a little heavier, obviously, about $70-75 on ebay.
Thanks for the info, like the idea of it being rechargeable!!
Rees,
I got one with 2 batteries so you always have one charged up all the way. It works pretty good with a full charge but even though its a lithium you can tell when the charge is going down and not just on the rib bones. Rapala makes a new heavy duty corded knife that I am thinking of getting, especially before coming down for fall camp. It runs about 60 bucks and I think I can use it and keep the rechargeable one for a back up. The Rapala rechargeable ones with the 2 batteries and a case run 125 dollars or so
Im gonna fish wherever the fish are biting.. I will bring my recharge and you can see it in action, in fact im a nice enough guy I will let you clean all of my fish so that you can tell if you like it or not.
Rees, we have two crappie guides (Ranger 09, EB) here in Oklahoma that say you can't get a better knife than the American Angler 12 volt.

I have rapala, mister twister salt water edition, and an american angler. My american angler is about 10yrs old and still going. It is so much more powerful and 10x the rpms that the other 2 have, and maybe even combined! Problem is now is the new american anglers are so expensive. I bought mine new for $20. I lost the american angler, so i bought the rapala, it did ok but hurt my wrist because of lack of speed and power. So i got the mister twister salt water edition, it was alot more powerful than rapala, and i thot that was the ticket until.... I found my american angler again just this yr. There is seriously no comparison. Ya dont even hafta push the blade at all. This is just my personal opinion, and i dont get anything from advertisement, and totally non biased in the beginning of my experiments. Now i have a pretty strong opinion. I hope i dont offend anyone. But the question was asked, so i answered.
I only use 110 volt stuff. Seems to have more power.
Those will not last a year..
I'm trying a new American anglers with metal gears ..
Time will tell.
The OLD Mister twister were great .When they went to plastic gears they were sorry .
I've tried them all.
Some old knives off ebay that have metal blade connection and gears are great .
Just have to learn how to resharpen blades
It's a American angler pro
The best filet knife that I have ever used was purchased at Target... Now I cannot find them anymore should've bought everyone they had.. I have burned up countless mister twisters... The only one that will hold it's own to the Target knife is a black and decker
I have an American Angler that is many years old and still going strong. Now that I've bragged, it'll probably die :cheers2.
I have an American Angler that has been going stong for years as well!!!! I pick up a new blade every three years of so and it helps a bunch! No problem with the ribs on 2lbs plus fish that we get out of Guntersville around here.
My american angler is the blue handled one. It is OLD!!!!!! I dont know if it has metal gears, but I do know it is bad to the bone! I clean everything from 30+ pound cats to 6inch bream. It is definitely not prejudice!
I have been looking for another one, since I like to have a spare of something with this quality. Are the white handled ones as powerful as the old blue ones?
American Angler doesn't make the white handled one (saltwater) any longer. I use the American Angler Pro and really like it.
Side note: I have a friend that guides and cleans his clients' fish. He used a blue American Angler for years. It finally gave up the ghost. I took it apart to try and rebuild it. Couldn't do it. The contact plates on the armature had worn completely through. Surprised me when I discovered that it had plastic gears. And they weren't worn down. American Angler puts enough grease in those knives to last.
The new american anglers are well over a $100. Are they AS powerful as the old ones? definitely wanna know before I buy one for a spare. If they are, it is worth the price! Also have heard rumors of a new brand of electric filet knife coming out with. And it is supposed to be the baddest most powerful knife ever. Hafta wait and see once they are marketed. Cant remember what brand is coming out with it, maybe wally marshall? But dont quote me on that. I may be mistaken on the brand name.
I love my American Angler, best that I've ever had and especially with the shark blades. They don't make the low end ones anymore I guess they lasted too long for the money they made off of them. And I hear that on the pro models that the grip is too big to fit your hand. Just hope mine goes another 10 years then I'll worry about it. LowePro it's Buck Knives and Wally Marshall that have teamed up to make a new electric filet knife. Buck has always made good stuff so I hope it's no different. I sharpen my blades on the old ceramic sticks that make the v shape sharpener. I only hit the outside serrated side on the corresponding v stick and not on both sticks. Left one on the left side and right one on the right side. Seems to work pretty well.
Awesome! Thanx for clearing that up for me! Cant wait to wet a hook with ya bro!
I just watched the new commerical for wally and buck knives and it is for a filet knife not for a electric knife.
I bought the AA Pro early in the year when BPS had them for around $80. Really put it to hard use this year on crappie and catfish. It's a good strong knife. Being all metal inside it's much heavier in your hand than any I've tried and I've tried them all. It's showing no signs of knocking or slowing down. Now I see they've come out with the AA Classic modeled after the old Ultra but improved on the inside. The Ultra is the most comfortable knife I have used. If it will hold up like I think the Pro will that's going to be a great knife. Right now Amazon has the Pro with an 8" blade for $77.56 with free shipping. They also have the Classic with an 8" blade for $67.49 or the Classic and 3 blades for $70.90, both with free shipping.
You can get the AA Pro, with two blades at Wally World for $90. But spend the $12 and order the shark blades. The blades that come with it are fine for small blue gill but not on anything over 10 inches.
They seen heavy but aslong as it doesn't crap out I'll be happy
I agree with pintail on the black and decker. I get them at ace hardware for about 12 dollars. Don't know about power etc but it fits my hand better than most and the blade release isn't under where I place my thumb. Goes thru the ribs on a 10lb hybrid just fine. I also like the blades better than several I have tried. It seems like my mr twister and some others I have tried catch on the skin when I do the second step. No problem with blades on the b&d.
From my experience, a Buck 118 has done the job for me since the mid 70's.
I know it is not technically a fillet knife, but it fillets fish.
