Can you take snapshots
What brand card ...??
Is the card locked...??
Is there anything else on the card ...??
Has the card been fully formatted ...??
And what kosmo mentioned...can you take screenshots...??
Rickie
Not locked, no pics on it, unable to take snapshots, and kniw nothing about formatting
If you are using the HumminbirdPC program you can format your SD card through it by right clicking on the SD card icon in the upper right corner of the window. One of the options will be to “format” the memory card. I use the default settings for everything except for the “Quick format” and I uncheck it so that the memory card will go through a full format (which is better).
Thanks! I dont know if i have the humminbird pc program? I have a macbook pro. And i tried to register my humminbird via website too and it says something like dates are mixed up or something. Bought a brand new boat in march and had the units put on from dealership. Dont know if that voided my humminbird registration or wat.
At this time with your Mac..there's not much you need to do in your in account anyway...unless we are going to update your software ...
But let's not do that yet...to see if we can get your SD Card to work in the HB unit...
We still need to get your SD Card formatted to make sure it's in the correct format for use in the HB unit..
Go here and download the Mac version SD Card formatting tool from the SD Association...(the windows version of this SD Card association formatting tool is the one HB uses in their HBPC program)..
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/eula_mac/
Then open the SD Card formatting program and do a "Full Format" on your SD Card ...
Then test the SD Card in the HB unit again to see if it will record to or save snapshots to...(you can test in Normal mode on the water or in Simulator mode on the trailer)...
Rickie
Awesome! Will get it done and report back sir! :)
If you are also using a map card, make sure it is locked. I recently had a problem similar to yours and discovered my Navionics map card was unlocked. I had updated the map card and forgot to lock it after the update. The unit was trying to record to the map card instead of the SD card.
I dont have a map card yet, but plan on it! I will use this advice in the future! I downloaded the sdformater software, and put my sd card in it. It stated there is an error in formatting that sd card. So i got a brand new sd card and put that in my unit. Its working now :)! Dont know what the problem is with my other sd card, but its going to be a still photo card only! So the problem is a defective card. Thanx for the help! Now im gojng to start posting more detailed images!
:ThumbsUp
Ok. I think I finally got a recording on my sd card and got some great images too I believe! Would love to share them, only problem is.... Now i cant get my macbook pro to open the card for viewing :(. Now i have another problem to figure out. Any advice??? I got a disc that is for windows computer, but wont work n my macbook.
I got a question, 3 or 4 prolly. When you are recording which view will show up in the recording?? Gonna put a card in in the morning and let her rip.:biggrin
The HB unit records the raw data...
Playback will use that data to display all the views during playback...
The only exception is the unit will not record the "Imaging Frequency" not selected in the menu...
In other words..if 455kHz is selected as the "Imaging Frequency" under the Sonar tab, the unit will not record the 800kHz...
If the "Imaging Frequency" is changed during recording...the recording playback will also change frequency at that point in the playback...
Rickie
And 1 other thing I forgot...
The HB unit will not record the data outside the "SI Range" setting...
For example...:
During recording, if the "SI Range" is set to 50'...the playback of this recording will be black outside of this 50' "SI Range"...
Rickie
Thanks Rickie, real green at this but gonna prefish for a tourney Sunday and figured this would be a good way to scout an area or two. How far is too far to extend my SI scan?? 150 off each side good?
Also, what size card do I need to use?
Longer SI Range setting makes structure and fish look smaller...
I have had success with spotting interesting things with an SI Range setting of 100'...but I can't tell what those interesting things are at that range...(watch for the shadows)...
So I drop a waypoint on the interesting things and then re-position the boat to scan at 50-70' SI Range...
---------------------------
HB units will take up to 32gb SD Card ....SDHC or SD....(do not use SDXC)...
HB recommends the Sandisk brand...
Rickie
Thanks Rickie. Will post some pics when I get to run it.
My macbook recognizes the card, but says something along the lines of, unable to play footage, and it says to search for an app so it can be played. I searched that and nothing would show up on the search. A disc came with my humminbirds, and when i put it in my macbook, it says that its a different software than what macs can run. So i have no idea whats on this disc. But im thinking that the software on the disc, is the "card reader" if you will. And without that then I cant view my recordings. But that cant be uploaded to my computer because its a mac. I think if it was a windows I wouldnt be having this issue. I would like to take the disc to my mom's computer to test my theory, but most of the times, these disc are a one upload and done. And If i upload it to my mom's computer then I wouldnt ever be able to put it on a different one.
The disk that came with your unit is the Installation/User manual for your unit...
HB does not make software that will open/show the Snapshots and/or recordings...(HB only makes the unit itself be able to show/view the Snapshots and Recordings)...
If you can get the Mac to open the SD Card , there will be files and folders on the SD Card...
The "Profile" file is the information of your specific unit that HBPC would read...(not gonna happen in your Mac)..
-----------------
The "Matrix" folder stores the Nav data..(if you have "Exported All Nav Data" from the unit memory to the SD Card)...
-----------------
The "Snapshots" folder stores the unit screenshots taken and the associated files necessary for the HB unit to display those snapshots in the "Snapshot and Recording" view of the unit itself...
Inside the "Snapshots" folder there will be a .PNG file that is the actual screenshot that your Mac should be able to display by clicking on the .PNG file...(the .dat file associated with each .PNG file is only necessary if viewing that snapshot on the HB unit...so just leave it alone)....
---------------
The "Recording" folder stores the recordings made on the unit...these recordings can be played back in the unit itself ... Or in certain 3rd party software programs...Yellowfin, Humviewer, Deepview, SI View...
Other 3rd Party Software
----------
Can you get your Mac to recognize the SD Card ...such that you can see the above files and folders I mentioned...??
Rickie
Yes sir it does recognize the files. Just says that it cant be played. What is humviewer? How much is that? Is that a software that I could install to play the recording. So If I take just snapshots then my mack will open that?
So if I buy a windows computer, that should play it?
Let's try snapshots first before we get into Humviewer...
If your Mac is opening the SD Card such that you can see the "Profile", Matrix (if Nav data), Snapshots (if any taken), Record (if any taken)...
Click on the "Snapshot" folder...
When it opens ...click on one of the files that has a .PNG extension...
Does the snapshot open on your Mac...??
Rickie
Ok. I wont be back on the water until Monday. I did a recording because I was thinking I could make snap shots out of the recording. Snap shots is what I want to accomplish so I can post em on this website so its not a "picture of a picture". So monday will take some snapshots only! Thankyou. :)
You can definitely open the screen snapshots on your Mac! Depending on which Mac you have, you can run vm and install windows, then you can run HBPC on it. That's what I do.
Awesome Redge! Will try that! I have a 2011 macbook pro. What is vm? And how do I install windows?
VMware Fusion is a program, runs a virtual machine (windows) on your Mac. You also have to own a copy of windows. I have a MBP also, running mavericks.
"You also have to own a copy of windows"??? What does this mean? Im not following. :(
Does your Mac have an Intel processor?
You can take screenshots while the recording is playing back on the unit itself...
Playback the recording on the unit...
*Then Press Menu twice to get into the main menu...
*Cursor over to the "Accessories" tab ...
*Cursor down to "Screenshots" ...
*Cursor right to turn on "Screenshots" ...
*Press the "Exit" button repeatedly until you back out of the menu system ...
*Freeze the playback when something interesting shows in the playback display....by pressing the 4way cursor ...
*Press the "Mark" button to save a screenshot to the SD Card ...(this will also create a waypoint at the position on the water of where the boat was in that instant when the recording was made)....
*Press menu 1 time to open the Xpress menu...
*Cursor down to "Stop Playback"...
*Remove SD Card from the unit ...
*Insert SD Card in your Mac card reader ...
*Open the SD Card so you can see the files and folders contained on the SD Card ...
*Open the "Snapshot" folder ...
*Click on the file with a .PNG extension...
The screenshot should open on your Mac...
Rickie
Man that is AWESOME that these units can do all of this!!! I paid that much money for just side and down imaging. Had I known all this could have been accomplished, prolly woulda paid more for it. lol. Will give this a shot too! Thanx guys! At work today, but tomorrow gonna get it done.
While the recording is playing back on the unit...you can also mark waypoints off to the side in the SI image playback..
*Press Menu to stop the SI image screen scroll and activate the cursor..
*Use the 4way cursor to move the cursor to an interesting item on the SI image...
*Press the "Mark" button...
This will save a waypoint at that exact spot (where your cursor is)...on the lake where you made the recording...(if your screenshot feature is still turned on, the unit will also save a screenshot to the SD Card)...
(mark everything interesting in the SI image playback...and then verify those interesting things the next time you're on that part of the lake)
