Has anybody heard about the drawdown coming? It's supposed to start Sept 15 and drop 15 ft as the DOT needs 5 days to look at a bridge or something similar. This would be a good time to find brush piles and may reclaim lost tackle!

There is an article in the W-S Journal about the drawdown. DOT wants to look at the causeway on St Matthews Church Rd. A normal drawdown I think is 8 feet. This should reach 14 or 15 feet for 5 days then they hope to refill as quickly as possible. Hope they can find the problem and repair in that 5 days.
We just had friends move to a house on Swearing Creek. That area will be totally dry. Looks like fall fishing is really gonna take a hit.
This will make fall fishing tons better. More fish in a smaller area. Should be some niceuns caught...
There will be a lot of dry ground and I really don't think the lake would be full until cold weather gets here but a big rain can change that. This should help the fishing for next year as the last time they let water out it made a big difference.
Have heard reports of drawdown. This may move our annual church tournament to a different lake this year.

Based on this article if everything goes according to plan, the lake would be down 14-15' about the end of October at the earliest. I wouldn't expect the lake to be full until Christmas if we don't get much rain. Maybe fall fishing won't be that bad after all and hopefully capps cousin can still have the tournament.
Fishing was never better than when we used to sling mud in the winter; and then everyone had to have a full lake all the time. You can thank the full lake people for that %$#@ now they complain about not being able to get under the bridges. Use some common sense; sunshine on the muddy lake bottom produces wonderful vegetation for the fish, and besides its too cold to ski anyway. If you can afford a place on the lake you can probably afford a place in Boone to SNOWSKI in the winter. Go enjoy that and then come back in spring to great fishing
Better be very careful most ramps will be out of the water completely Tamarac ramp is only in 12 to 14 feet at the end at full pond. You back your truck off the ramp trying to get the boat off your trailer and you may be in deep **** !!! and how many stumps, rocks and logs are hid in that mud just waiting to rip your foot off lot of difference from putting the boat in a lake or a mud hole and enough of that mud will stop up your water pump !!!
I'm sure some ramps will be closed for a bit like Buddle Creek but I've heard Second Creek and Flat Swamp can still be used when there is a drawdown. I am sure there it won't be easy loading/unloading and possibly won't be able to use the ramp but I have a 10 ft jonboat & 3 hp motor to look around if all else fails!
Several yrs ago when the lake went down so far I took at the time my 14ft Jon boat down and put in at flat swamp and was told as long as u stay on ramp ur fine but if u get on dirt to launch u cld be fined for trespassing cuz u weren't on the wildlife land anymore.I tell u one thing fishing was purty awesome when the water was down the way it was caught a lot bigger fish and seen a lot of structure. May try to go down again and take pics this time
The draw down won't effect my boat launching and retrieving.

The latest report per Salisbury Post article is the drawdown will not start until Oct. 1st. Assuming they dont drop the lake 10 feet or so in four days the church tournament will remain at High Rock. Complete details on the tournament will be posted in the next day or so.
I would think the lakes below High Rock would have better fishing when they start the draw down. Moving water is a good time to fish. I would really like to see the lake at low water. A fly over video is what we need, get out the drones!
Glad to hear they won't start until October however I don't like the fact they sound like they will let more out to get the water down by the first of November.
I work with a guy who has a place on high rock he told me that they may take it down as much as 19 ft. he said that's what they first told him.
