I got two bags of it Tuesday to take to fall camp ......My wife and I went on a adventure....wound up in Kemper Co. and found Sciples Mill after driving on all the log roads in the county lol....got some good bread at the Old Country Bakery in Brooksville also
It is good ain't it? Good looking filets!!
They look perfect!!
Yes it is fine, got just right amount of spice and comes out really crispy
Next time your in there try one of their sandwiches G, they are really good.
Those fillets look like they are perfectly cooked, 'course you've had just a little practice. That cornmeal seasoning is spot-on, all you have to do is salt to your taste.
Didn't know you were related to any of them folks John.
Related to a bunch of em, Gully's and Jarvis'. Don't tell nobody, grandfather was sheriff in Kemper in the late 60 to mid 70s. Even had some connection to the Stennis', part of the land we have on 397 was old Stennis land.
I will look for that book....my father in laws people were all from Kemper county
Here ya go G, not sure its worth buying at these prices tho, we have a copy down at moms, will see if I can locate it when I go back down.
Bloody Kemper: A true story in Mis'sippi: Hewitt Clarke: 9780964923119: Amazon.com: Books
Oh by the way, Tallahatchie County is a Kemper Wanabe!!!!:Rofl
WOW....that's a high priced book
What I was thinking, wish I would have bought several of em when they first came out, have gone up considerably.
I am distant cousins to some of the Gully's. One of them was over at my place in Louisville today, he is the spit tin' image of the old man Gully in the book who was murdered.
I don't think I would pay that for it either, I had a copy that is now "Gone with the Wind" lol. Your local library may have a copy.
Here is some of what the author of the book said......
"In the 1890's a sinister doctor entered into a conspiracy with local merchants. He poisoned as many as fifty of his own patients to collect life insurance. Newspapers called it the most heinous crime in the history of the nation.
The story flashes back to the Reconstruction period after the Civil War. A bitter feud between two prominent families, the Gullys and the Chisolms, led to what is called "the massacre". They say blood ran in the streets that day. "
Any ideas who this Doctor was ?
It's been so long since I read the book I can't remember his name. I remember thinking it would make one heck of a movie. You just can't make that kind of stuff up.
Wonder why the book is so high priced ? Maybe they did not print a lot of them dunno. Would love to read it.
Good thing is since it's from Mississippi you can rest assured that it hasn't been read much. I'm kidding. Hope you guys know that.
Don't think they did print may of them. When I was just old enuff to drive we were visiting my grandparents, I met a young lady and asked her out. My grandfather ask me who it was I was going out with and I told him, he didn't know her, ask who her folks were and my mom spoke up and said her grandparents were Chisolms, the rest of the conversation is not kid friendly, needless to say the date got cancelled and we went coon hunting instead, got an ear full that night!!!:Rofl
Very interesting thread!!
Looks great Sammy!
I'll trade you some puppy mix for some....
