Cane Creek 12/2/06

Went to Cane Creek today. Boy it was cold. The crappie didn't cooperate for me. Bobberstopper was there and Ceb was there. I only caught one crappie, and when I left Ceb had 13, with some nice ones. I'm trying to fish like Willie that we have talked about fishing the jig under a cork using a slow retrieve. Willie was catching good crappie today, have pics of a couple of good ones, he had at least four like these.

Well, not ALL the arkansas boys.. I didn't put a keeper fish in the boat. I did however chase one of the "pet" geese around the boat ramp though.. :D

Didn't you boys freeze your butts off? them are some nice fish. I had to go duck huntin.... Should have went with yall.

that Willie had his limit twice and gave away some fish twice so he could keep fishing. Trying to get him to join crappie. com. He's a super nice guy. While I was talking to Ceb when I was getting ready to leave a nice green carp caught his self on Ceb's pole.

Was a little cool out there on Saturday. Took all day to get 15 crappie, one of which was given to me by Jerry. Went out again this morning. Froze up as soon as I got out there. Thawed out and came back in. The temp wasn't bad, but the wind would cut right through you. Didn't stay long enough to really fish for them. Me and another guy were the only idiots out there first thing this morning.

Chris, I started out twice to go fishing this morning, went to get gas a 6 this morning and debris a was blowing across the parking lot so I went home. Went out at 8 to go and the wind was worse, so I gave up. Nice catch you had Saturday. May try to go this week if the wind stops. I know you'll be back with the nice fish you caught, see you out there later.

Guys, I came real close to going out there w/ you this weekend, but it was sort of cold for me, and I fished the last 2 weekends. I decided to stay home & relax in the house; warm. The way my luck has been recently, I would have wound up like jerry instead of willie & chris. How long do the crappie hang out in this wintertime area? Just curious as to what the deadline for my next trip to star city will be. Also, I'm sure chris was using rosey reds, but what were you using Jerry?

Hey Jerry, I don't blame you at all for staying indoors on Sunday. It was terrible to say the least. When I was pulling out, Willie drove up and immediately left without even getting out of his van. I don't know if the little one man could take the 2' swells out there. It was whitecappin' pretty bad as I was leaving.

We need to get four or five guys together for a weekend down there at CC. You can rent the RV for $65 a night (minimum 2 night rental). I promise that I will let you catch a fish if you decide to go Gooch.:D

I will just take my boat and then can catch all I want.

I have a trailer I can take. I have an RV too, but can't get the boat in the water with the RV. $65 a nite is pretty cheap though.

Randy I mostly tried fishing like Willie was with a jig under a bobber. Thats what I caught the one I caught on. I also fished with rosey reds under a bobber and caught one small one and a bream on that. I'm going to keep trying Willie's method because he is catching more and bigger fish than anyone. He is very generous with everyone about what he is doing, and most are trying it but are not successful. I am going to take a vacation day Wednesday and try it all day, I would really like to get this technique down.

Exactly what jig is he using? All I know is orange/chartruse. Size? Make/Model? I would be in for a weekend at CC, depending on the weekend.

He's using a plain lead head jig, 1/32 oz and pushing the tube completely over the lead head. If ya'll make a trip to CC and need someone to split the cost of the camper I'm in. But if you have enough I will still meet y'all up there for fishing and just getting together.

From what I've seen of Willie's technique: very small float (clip-on), jig on the smaller side (not sure of the exact size), no weight, long pole, and fishin about 4&1/2' deep.

Hey Jerry, I saw another guy using the same technique. He pulled 8 or 9 nice ones out of one spot (close to where we were catching them the first of November). He was also using brown/chart. I took a peek at his fish, and he had one that was at least 2.75

How about willie! The guy's a legend, & he's not even a member of Crappie.com. Everyone's trying to emulate him, in the 1 man boat catchin' all of the slabs. He's the man.

Willie definately has them dialed in for sure. For just the last 5 minutes before I left CC while talking to Jerry and Chris, he hauled in 3 "good erns". Don't be fooled with his one man plastic boat. He came by me on Thanksgiving Day with dual trolling motors wide open. Gonna name that boat "Skint Back"!

Willie is the man. He is a good ol' boy too. I talked to him for about 15 minutes as we were pulling out Saturday. He is really easy going and will tell you everything he knows. I was also surprised to learn that he just started fishing out there back in September. From the way it looked, I thought he had been fishing out there for a long, long time. Just goes to show you.

Well I have one more vacation day this year, and I am going to Cane Creek tommorow. Supposed to be 59 degrees a light SW wind, 2 days after the full moon. So I'm going to give them a try. I'm going to use Willie's method and hope I can learn it. Wish me luck. I'm going to learn it or bust.
