Have fished couple times, once up around hwy bridge crossing, spent two days up/down
river worked holes, drifts, lillys, back edges.................Nothing....
Worked the little lake that you can see off I-75 (believe it to be silver or someting
like that for full day - caught couple bass, war-mouths, blue-gills no SPEC'S
Floral City - Lower lake of 3 off 48 was petty good each time fished the area.
Couple of guys have prefished the Inverness area (Lake Harrison) center lake of
3 pool chain. Spec's have been pretty good up there.
Haven't spent much time up there in past couple years - been told water level is up
real good, which is pleasant thought.http://www.crappie.com/crappie/attac...d=171165&stc=1http://www.crappie.com/crappie/attac...d=171166&stc=1http://www.crappie.com/crappie/attac...d=171167&stc=1
Was curious. Spent the weekend playin in the Rainbow river. Ate dinner at the Blue Gator on the Withlacoochee river at Anglers Resort. Sure love that area. Highly recommend to everyone to take the trip down the Rainbow and see how prestine a river can be managed if evryone does their part. And if ya go deffinately catch dinner at the Blue Gator.
that area is great.............also has good camp ground at Rainbow Springs area.
Well worth the trip.............Little short on trees for camper but great area - springs
are super...........excellant camp ground for family ............
I mostly fish the river around the bridge CR 476. There is a ramp at the fish camp there. Have done most of my fishing in the spring Feb 1. My best day say about 20 and nothing huge 10-12" range and a lot of big gar to contend with. The section that you were on goes to lake Russoe , now that place looks fishy with a lot of standing timber from where the old barged canal was being built. Deep channel and timber on the sides.
Thats where we went. Gotta be in the old side to get shade trees. But yes the new side is very sparse. We took the tube run 3 times and saw stuff we hadnt seen before. We try and go at least once every summer. Next time I am bringing the yak for a nighttime run to the headspring up river.
Withlacoochee back waters was the place long ago. Remember going there with my parents as a child, wish I knew where it was. Probably 60 years ago now. I can still picture the place but couldn't tell you where it was. Bass fishing. Rainbow River is beautiful. Wiki Wachee used to be until it was developed with houses. Used to go there before houses. My Dad and uncles went there when Wiki Wachee Springs was a cow pasture. Nostalgia!!
Harold Silver lake to my knowledge has never been a good fishing place.
I took a few hours to figure that one out Ronnie............Still nothing there, just very
pretty with river running through it..........no spec's - few bluegills and warmouths
Your knowledge of area is greatly appreicated...........ah yes those had to be the
good ole days..............
Went exploring out there myself. Just as Harold said awesome boat ride but few fish. I will still go back one day for the boat ride alone :)
Sounds Beautiful
My kinda scenery
We will be home in Inverness in 2 weeks. Still pounding the crappies/bluegills here in upstate NY. Have fished Henderson and Hernando Pools a lot since moving to Inverness in 05 but have not caught many Crappie, lots of Bass and Pan Fish. Turner Camp road launch has always been good for Pan Fish, Launch just off SR200 near Stump Knockers isn't bad, I don't care for the launch on 44 cause you have to park across the road. Have fished Lake Rousso and the launch on the Barge Canal a lot. Have not launched in Inglis yet but plan to this Fall but have launched once from KP-Hole and got lots of Bass/panfish and the Rainbow river is beautiful. Will try to post new info after we have fished them more this Fall. The launch on SR44 near Wild Bill's airboat ride is nice but the river can be shallow and there is a small launch by the Inflatable Dam. Heard lots of good things about the Floral City pool and the launch is really nice. We are going to try out near the power lines soon.
Thanks for update PM
We have tournament on November 22nd, on Lake Henderson,
Will be using the Public Ramp on Hwy 44. Welcome to come out and
join event of come for weigh in.
I have caught a few in Floral City area, but nothing special. VERY pretty area.
Have u ever launched the tournament out of Henderson fish camp?
Floral City has some dandy spots in it..........connections to two other lakes
around a curve and under couple bridges...........
Attached are couple pictures that Stanley West / Bill Bercaw caught 63 spec's in
two hrs, kept 50 that weighed in at 52 lbs. 4.5 oz. - This was back in Nov. 2010.

This will be first tournament FCC has had on Henderson - I believe the 44 ramp
is where old Henderson Fish used to be before they built new docks.
If it is i stayed there by in 95 couple days working that lake.
We tried to put this on schedule last year but water level was to low..........
This will be the ramp comming into Inverness on 41 & junction with 44 ramp on
one side of road and parking lot across street.
Fished Tasal Apopka in days gone by. Drove a Model A Ford from Tampa to Hernando once. We camped with some friends that bought property on the lake. I think it was Henderson. Caught a lot of Bass and mudfish and catfish. Water may be up enough to fish some potholes. There are springs in some of the Bonnet fields if you can find them. My brother had a place on Panasofkee that he caught a lot of bass but not many specks.
Glad you said Model A Ronnie, thought for sure you were going to say "took the buggy
and ole maude" up there, took almost 2 days, cut enough branches to make a lean too.
fished out of old indian dug out.
That was the first trip, Harold. I don't remember telling you about that one. Were you watching me?
i remember old days, when you took a 6 volt battery and 15' leads.......and/or
used the old hand crank armature....(that got tiring) small jon boat
Didn't use bait, hooks, poles, just a net to catch up came up ....kinda like shopping
at a buffet............just pick & choose, take some leave some.
"ring of baloney & 6 pack of Falls Staff / Drewry's / Hammm's didn't hurt..........
just don't mix that beer - ough - really could upset stomach on hot day.
It is far easier to bait a hole and drop a couple M80's in with em. Not that I have ever tried it or anything, but an orange sack stuffed with wagon train can sure draw a mix batch of fish in. And a 2 ounce pyramid surf sinker is plenty weight for 3 M80's with linked fuses. High school science experiments in Louisiana were fun, just sayin!
Science projects - i want to see the paper you wrote on that one.
M-80's would kill them ???? With shock method - you just picked what you wanted
in about 5 -10 minutes everyone came back to life and left................
(Bad thing that also came with shock - water snakes (all kinds and sizes bad & good
and they were not happy campers about being shocked) Up North didn't have to worry
about alligators, or pedators of that size (just them snakes)
Dern Harold, I am appauled that you thought I was fishin that waynonono that would have been illegal:banghead I have baited catfish holes with wagon train and I have done an experiment with M80's but would never have mixed the 2 nonono:biggrin
Sorry guys. Scaled fish don't shock, scales are insulators. Now catfish, eels and skin varmints will die. In my profession we had what was called "breakdown" sets. This was a metal box that held 14 45v drycell batteries that produced 630v at 5 amps. I know of two guys that hooked two of them together to make 1260v and 10 amps clipped to 2 pieces of hardware cloth. At Horizon Park just north of Tampa stadium there are some ponds. Threw the hw cloth in the pond 10-15 feet apart. When you hit the switch fish went crazy. Don't remember seeing any skinned fish but the bream were only stunned for a short while. Harold the paralyzed gentleman that lives near your place at Kiss. was the other one.
My dad took us camping there twice a year (once in the spring, once in the fall) when I was little. Went there for several years in a row and we camped downstream of Silver Lake in what used to be a remote camping area. I'm the youngest of 7 but the three oldest kids didn't go camping by then so it was the 4 youngest of us that would go and he would let us each bring a friend. This was about 40 years ago. My family was big into the boy scouts and girl scouts so we always borrowed a trailer with canoes from the scouts so that each kid/friend pair had our own canoe. Now get this... this is how times have changed. We had a 22 (I think that's what it was) and we would paddle around looking for water moccasins and argue over who got to shoot them.
Several times we went camping in the 10,000 islands (no gps or anything but somehow my dad knew his way around those islands in a boat) and we spent some quality time as a family shooting at empty cans or whatever... you know, target practice. I must have been about 6 or 7 when I was let in on those games.
That explains a lot huh? Anyways, I digress... but I have a lot of fond memories of the Withlacoochie.
