Any specific reason for 10 or 12 ft?
Reason I am asking is there is a load of economically priced 9 ft rods that are designed for trolling crankbaits (for walleye and trout but work well for crappie too). Diawa Wilderness, Heartland, and Accudepth; Shimano TDR; Okuma Pro Troll,Magna, Deadeye; and Cabelas and BassPro both have their brand walleye rods too.
Some of the guys on the SC site swear by the Diawa Wilderness 9'6" one. Pretty reasonable price, seems like it was under $20.
9 ft will be good I was just throwing out a length. Thanks guys I'll look those up.
Check out the Pan Fish Special 10 ft @ $14.95!

Thanks monk. Will a bait caster work on the panfish special?
If you plan on using planers in the future, you might not want to go long!!!
What does a fixed reel seat mean on a rod?
Just means the reel seat is permanently fixed to the handle wherever the manufacturer put it unlike a Tennessee handle wear you can move the reel anywhere you want on the handle.
Ok. Can you still put a baitcast or spinner reel on a fixed reel seat?
Yes. The only factors are "balance" and "direction of bend" when you're talking about putting a baitcast reel on a spinning rod. Balance is more important when you'll be holding the rod/reel in your hand while fishing, as opposed to having it in a rod holder. The direction of bend is important due to the way spinning rods & baitcast rods are made. Baitcast rods are made with the guides pointing up, when you're holding/using the rod, and the blank is meant to bend down (away from the guides). Conversely, spinning rods are made with the guides pointing down, when you're holding/using the rod, and the blank is meant to bend towards the guides.
When you use a baitcast reel on a spinning rod, you're asking the rod to bend in the opposite direction it was meant to bend. In theory, this "may" stress the blank, or the guides, and shorten the life of the rod.
Putting a spinning reel on a fixed seat rod is fine ... you just may want to pick a reel that will balance the rod, but that's primarily a factor when casting with the outfit, and not so much when the outfit will most often be in a holder. The use of a rod with a Tenn handle is primarily for the ability to place the reel on the rod handle at a point where it balances the weight of the rod. Again, this is primarily for methods where you're constantly holding the rod in hand while fishing ... as in casting or jigging methods.

Thanks crappie pappy. The reason I was asking because I'm getting the ht panfish special and want to put a baitcaster on it and it says it's a fixed reel seat. From what you saying a baitcaster will work on it.
To pull cranks, I use the 7ft. Daiwa Wilderness. To push cranks, I use 14ft. Crappie Maxx Signature series.
