Does any one know if these work for crappie
Sounds like a full fledged gimmick to me.
What I was thinking just wandering if anyone has used one
If it was just a gimmick they would have been out of business a long time ago. The original co started back in the late 80's and here latley in last 3-4-5 years Kevin Vandam bought them out. Ton's of them sold to the Bass guys. The only thing I know about them for Crappie fishing is what a guy I used to do business with told me. His brother who was a big bass fisherman bought one of the originals. Guy I knew was a crappie fisherman. They took it on a couple of trips crappie fishing and the guy I knew was so impressed he bought one for his boat. Don't know how much they are now but back then they were just over 700.00. And that was quite a investment for him at the time.
However, the striper guides swear they can call up stripers by banging a pole on the bottom of the boat. This is when the stripers are down 50 feet or more. They claim the vibrations mimic schools of shad being hit by predator fish and they come up to investigate.
I actually saw a fishing program where they were on Clark Hill I think and did that and you could see the stripers on the DF coming up from the depth. I think it was Allen Warren Outdoors.
Never tried it myself.Might be a bunch of Hooey.
Things have come a long way and we know they can hear of feel sounds. The units now are 399 and the mini 135, heck someone need to do some testing and share the info. I'll do the testing if someone want to buy one :):)
You gonna need another yak if you keep buying accessories or you might sink!
Maybe
This "thumping" for stripers works! I've seen it in action with my own two eyes. This past Sunday I fished with a friend down around the dam for stripers. We would mark a fish or two around humps and throw a marker buoy out to mark the spot. We'd set up shop in close proximity to the marker buoy and he'd start banging on the bottom of his fiberglass boat with a pole. The depthfinder would start out relatively blank and when he'd start bumping fish would start shooting across the screen. It definitely brought the stripers in!
I've looked at this Hydrowave product myself and I have to say, I'm very intriqued by it. It may be a hoax, but I think there could be possibly something to it. I can see where it would be beneficial in some methods of crappie fishing. I don't think it'd be very productive for long lining as the boat would be moving and covering too much ground. I do think it could help make a few fish bite while spiderrigging or fishing brush piles. I know there's a lot of times I mark fish and have bumps and I'm confident that they are crappie not "feeding." I've tried scents and live bait and that seems to help sometimes, but if there were something to trigger the "feeding instinct" in fish that could be remarkable breakthrough in fishing technology....this could be it! :)
Well the Striper is the closest relative to the White Perch so if it works for one it probably would work for the other. I will give it a try when the opportunity presents itself.
true back when i was a helper on a striper guide boat in the 80s when the bite slowed down the guide would take his fish knocker and tap on the stern wheel and the bite would start to pick up so yes it will work but for crappie never heard of working or ante other fish but the striper and hybrids ever seen a ted Williams fish caller put out by sears back in late 60s early 70s maybe they really did work lol
Hey Jimmy, some where in the attic I have a thing and it's not the Ted Williams that is shaped like a egg, is plastic with about 25 ft of wire and a box for a D cell battery. It's some kind of fish caller. Maybe I need to crawl around and find it. Might just be what I need to start catching some fish.
Gerald, as luck would have it I read that post the night we got back. I was about ready to try anything after we had such poor luck.
Yea, But look at all the fun we had.
Well don't know with crappie but I am a striper guy an when iam in deeper an deeper Water iam beating the bottom but it only seems to work if there feeding an I can sometimes get them to form a school under me following me troll but then again I have seen it turn them off guess it depends on there mood
I am a firm believer that "thumping" works for striper. I have been doing it for 20 years, and I have caught my share of striper. Rango was a non-believer until I took him to Wateree and we limited out in a couple of hours when most folks were not catching fish. He also gave me my nickname that day "Thumper".
Your thumping stick must be out of calibration
I am an owner of the hydrowave and can say that it does what it says it will do. It draws the bait to your location. I use mine primarily for night fishing. I have run my own set of experiments and noted that the bait comes in thicker and gravitate towards the speaker. As for turning the crappie on I can't say for sho. Some nights have been good and some have been bad on the catching. Just depends on the fish. It is another tool in my arsenal. It get more bait around you at a faster pace. All this action draws the predator fish to you. I recently changed boats and did not have the speaker connected to the boat my last 2 night trips. Had two bad trip. Headed out this weekend with it speaker. Will give an update then.
