Ok some help needed. Why should I buy and inverter? I have 3 12Volt batteries that are usable for night stalking( 2 troller batts that I wouldn't be using at night and an accessory battery).
What's the advantage of an inverter? What am I missing?

What do you need the 120 volts for? That is what an inverted does. I have a small one that runs an aquarium pump for my minnows. I use it as a backup in case my regular one dies or if I have 2 buckets of minnows.
I use an inverter for an aquarium pump as well, for minners and livewell both. I can see running some leds lights off the inverter at night, cheaper and fairly easy to get.
I've already got 12v bubblers for the bait tank & 12volt led lights for under the pontoon. The only other lighting I think I need is for shining on the rods, I have a 12v overhead light on a pole.
I've never done the night thing on my own boat so I'm not sure if I need the inverter, I get if I wanted toast for a sandwich or to run the microwave...but what else would I need?
It takes a heavy duty inverter to run anything that uses resistance heat or an appliance like a microwave. We had one in our RV that would run our TV and Sat dish receiver, but I ran the generator for AC and microwave. Coffee maker will make it hum too and they will suck batteries down too.
Heck, I just remembered you got a pontoon. Put a flat screen in and a dish on the roof. Watch Monday Night football waiting on the fish to bite. Probably have some company too. Take plenty of snacks and beverages. OK this is getting out of hand.:bash
Doesnt sound like you need a converter. I used one when nightstalking because I ran the low energy household bulbs overhead. (Those were very little pull on batteries and ran off 110 AC current.

I knew you were not serious about the toaster, least I hoped you weren't, but the more I thought about the TV and satellite dish, I...........well, never mind.
Paint your rod tips with flat white paint they will be easier to see under you overhead light. If that don't work use a clap on fixture with a 12 volt bulb to shine over your rod tips. You should be okay. Only reason I run inverters is that I want a brighter light system and I use the 26 watt curly bulb, it does not drain your battery down as fast.:highfiveQuote:

Storm I like the idea of the blue Leds, how long a strip do you have? I have 2 16' strips under the boat, I think that would be overkill on the sides. People around me for miles would be blinded by the light. :-)

I have leds installed on my kayak outside and inside, hard to beat them plus they stick onto the boat.. Looking forward to going on a nightstalk soon. They really throw the light. The outside lights I have one 24'' Green and the other side is a mix of Green and White in the 24'' run. The Greens are wired to one switch and the White lights have their own switch. I have 2-- 6'' Green and 2---6'' Whites on the inside with both colors wired together. Going to put some on the big boat also soon.
