Trash or Treasure? 07-29-2014

Went out for them string stretching carp again and had a pretty good day. Didn't get the size as last time but managed to catch 12 and three pulled off, one broke my line. Half white amur (aka grass carp) and half common carp, biggest was 14 pounds. There is def a difference in how they fight. I was fishing on the Osage right next to the Maries on the bank, making a pretty good cast into the river. The river level is perfect for carp fishing, low and no current. I was using med action rods, 10 or 12 pound test, or 20 pound braid, with a 16 lb magna thin leader and 1/4 oz sinker, soaked n boiled field corn for bait. Woulda stayed longer but I had to work, them carp are fun, but I don't eat them. Oh and I caught two turtles.

Love fishing the Osage River. Those carp,sure put up a fight. We usually make a trip to the lock and dam in the fall after all the boat traffic is done.

That had to be a blast catching them.

We use to fish for those bugle mouth bass on the black river back in the 70's. They are a heck of a fight.

55 acre lake in my HOA has produced some 49# whites. Great fun for the kids, and me.

Used to fish for them a lot, had a blast catching them on various baits. I didn't know any better so we kept a lot of them and baked them like a trout. I still think they tasted better than trout do.

As ripnlips always tells me "catch them non targeted species".

ripnlips also tells him do not put them in the boat.:biggrin Them things are fun till they are boatside only one I even thought came close to edible a quamalian smoked and had with crackers and cheese. But they are fun kind of share beagles thought thou not me. Congrats and enjoy.
