Found them again, Potomac River, 24 June 14

Took my wife out along with the kids this time, hoping to get on the fish again like the other day. From the first cast it was on. We put 52 in the cooler between 0545 and 0830. My wife capped it off with a stud, 16 in, 2.3 lb crappie. The fish were even better this time, with the large majority 12-13 in fish. Anything black and chartreuse on 1/16 oz jigs, and in 7-10 feet of water. The fish are feeding heavy right now. Water temps are 80-82, so the fish are a little deep, but they are drilling it. My normal cast and retrieve, became a cast, let it sink, thump! Over and over.

Now THAT's a great day's fishing!! What was the black/white ratio? Only a few of the fish in your pile-o-fish picture appear to be whites.

I counted only 4 whites. Maybe 5, the big one has some vertical stripes kind of like a white. The previous trip, they were all black. Which makes sense. This is a grassy, river system, from my understanding, these areas end up predominantly black crappie.

My little boy, 5 yo, is a fishing machine already. It took alot of trial and error, patience, frustration, etc ( I started teaching him casting lures at 3 yo), but now at 5 and change, he stands on the back deck of the boat, casting jigs, catching fish all on his own. I only have to stop to untangle the occasional birds nest. He's crazy about fishing. The little girl is reeling the fish in as of now, and we practice casting in the back yard. She's coming along, but not quite ready yet. My pops taught me on ultralight spinning gear at the age of 5 or so, and I'm continuing the tradition.

On a separate note, I've been pretty impressed with the crappie on the Potomac. I've found a spot, but I think its only the tip of the icerberg so to speak. I'm looking forward to posting more reports. I've been a member of crappie.com for a while now, posting on other state boards (active duty military), and I've found nothing but good people in the crappie fishing community.
