How many believe in keeping their first fish for good luck! :-)
How many believe In keeping their first fish of the day no matter the size.:-)
Sorry for the double post can someone remove one of them for me.
I sure do. I may not put it on ice, but I'm putting it in the live well until I get ready to leave! Unless it's illegal for those that will want to jump on that!
I hate it when I catch a fish before I get all of my stuff rigged up. Normally, it is the only one I catch all day. DP
Friend of mine s grandmother always kept the first fish- and fed it to her little dog! Even if it was a slab!
keep all legal fish. Most of the time the first fish I catch cost $30.00 - $80.00. That's a high per pound price. Of course the more you catch the price per lb goes down. I have had some $10.00 per lb crappie. You gotta love em
No superstitions here. I keep or release depending on regulations and if its one I want to keep. I have a friend that is he catches a fish on his first cast, he packs it in and goes home.
If it is small I will throw it back. I then am on the hunt for a larger one.
Depends on size, keeper stays otherwise it goes back. I kinda like catching one while putting the poles out.
If it's legal it goes in the box.
Don't forget, it's bad luck to be superstitious.
if its a keeper
Keep him. He'll go down there and rat ya out if ya don't!
Make sure you land it. If it gets away it may just be a indication how your day is going to go.
DUDE!!! The 'first fish' and 'my limit' are congruous!!
Always keep my first. ... when I got capt. Dan or couch with me I try to grab theirs, to be helpful of course- and throw em back saying nope, Ain't nearly big enough without even measuring. Haha. Think I threw back 5-6 keepers on last trip. :o
:Rofl
Been known to do that myself. Carol, according to her was trying to net one of mine at Dardanell and whacked the top of the rod with the net and immediately it was fish off. Next one of hers, I netted and took it off and...yep it escaped right over the side:Rofl
She likes to keep the first fish and the last one, and all that are caught in between those.
Ive always heard its bad luck to keep the first fish no matter what the size.
I didn't till I talked to this Indian guy I work with just last week...something about it being bad medicine to throw back first fish...lol
Not superstitious if it's a keeper it goes in the box!
If it measures I always keep the first one.
Never gave it a thought, if it will filet it's going home with me.
I will if its legal, but my Mom always kept first fish. Thought it was bad luck to throw it back. Now looking back she must have thought it was bad luck to throw any thing back she caught.
If its legal it stays.
keep em all if they are legal
There is one thing I am superstitious about and that is BANANAS!!!, I refuse to have anything to do with Bananas on the day I am fishing, Don't mess with them guys... I am telling ya this is the truth, from years of fishing and messing with carrying a banana in the boat or eating them the day of. I don't know what it is but trust me they are bad MoJo when your fishing. I know there are some who don't believe but go ahead and don't listen...You will learn one day as I had to. Stay away from the Bananas when your fishing guys and gals at all cost...BAD MOJO...
Never heard the one about bananas. I will keep this in mind.
That's right MH... and the very worst thing you can do is bring one in the boat with you as part of lunch or whatever and peel it open and eat it while fishing. Makes me shiver thinking about it. Something even worse is if a buddy sneaks one on your boat before you go fishing to put a HEX on your boat. I always like to check my boat just in case someone is trying to Hex me. LOL You can bet I stay away from bananas the day of fishing. I know it sounds crazy but you will never see Ole CP with a banana on a day of fishing. LOL pull one out when I am fishing and I will try and get as far away's from you as possible. I don't know what it is but Bananas and fishing just don't mix. I love to eat them any other time...Just not when fishing.
Sounds like a joke, but I know you are not kidding. My grandfather was the same way about bananas. He wouldnt even let banana bread or banana boat sunscreen into the boat. Goes way back to before cargo ships had weight restrictions. They would overload the boats and sink, leaving nothing but a bunch of floating bananas! They also carried poisonous spiders and snakes that would take over the ships.
Well said Chris...Bananas are nothing to be messed with when fishing.
I believe this to be true in my situations as well!
How to rid yourself from Bad Banana Mo'Jo...I always carry a small packet of salt with me just in case an unknowing fishing buddy brings a banana on the boat or I come in contact with a banana while fishing some how. This is what you do....First off Don't Panic!!! Take the offending Banana and throw that sucker as far away from the boat as possible. If there is another boat nearby or another fisherman you don't really like throw it towards his boat...This will help alleviate some of the bad luck you incurred from coming in contact with the Banana. Next get your salt out and you and your fishing buddy if applicable put some salt in the palm of your hand and toss it over your shoulder, this should rid you and your buddy of any bad Banana luck. (Note this works on any bad luck while fishing...If your having a bad day on the water Try this...(Also note that some of you may need a whole can of salt...so take plenty if you feel you may be like RCC). Next... If you come in contact with a Banana while fishing and you don't have salt. Make sure you and you buddy stand up and spin around at least 3-5 times and do a Indian chat. This will get about 75% of the bad Mojo off you very quickly (not as effective as salt but...Hey!!!if it's all you got what do you have to loose. Also here again if you feel like you may be like RCC or BuckRub you may want to do the whole 5 spins and get louder with your chants. GOOD LUCK FISHING EVERYBODY...:biggrin
All of you are bananas. :biggrin
