The humidity is too high is Louisiana for it to work. Supposedly you need 30% or less humidity for it to have any cooling effect. Any higher than that and it's just a wet towel.
Went to Amazon to look at the reviews and that made me doubt the process there. How could 107 people be madly in love with it (5 star) and 59 people hate it with passion (1 star)?
The love group were mostly short, euphoric, and seemed canned while the haters had long strong negative opinions. Both groups can't be right.
Some of my golfing buddies have them and I tried one and it is no different than a wet towel. I even bought a couple of Columbia's "Omifreeze" golf shirts.
I think Elwood is correct. I can't tell any difference with the shirts over the quick dry ones that everyone sellls now. That is until you walk into an air conditioned room when you are soaking wet with sweat. Then it does seem the Omnifreeze is really cold, almost uncomfortable.
Never seen the comment about the humidity in any of the ads but we have real high humidity here too and I think it makes them ineffective.
Just my :twocents opinion.
I have one similar to that and our humidity on average is pretty high here. I like it. It seems to help me over a wet towel. I just dip it in the lake, wring out and put around my neck and down front of shirt. It seems to stay cool longer than a towel.
Got one for part of my fathers day and wore it while i mowed today. Thought i would like it and looked like a good idea to keep the sun off your neck but it was uncomfortable to wear and was no cooler to me than a wet towel....
I use 2 and alternate them from the ice chest. It works but not for long. What works good is my safari hat that has a built in fan.
same poor results for me......got 2....$26 down the drain.....best is wet a towel in your ice chest....that will wake you up....
Florida Water works well
I was wondering about those as well. Thanks for the comments guys.
How do you make florida water?
I have a Chilly Pad, made by the Frog Togg company, and I like it. Keep one in my boat. It's kinda like a chamois that you would wipe your car down with after you wash it. It stiffins up after it dries. Run some water over it, and it gets soft and pliable again. It doesn't wet you all up like a wet towel. I also use one when playing golf. I like it a lot. I don't know about this thing though.
Walgreen's has it works for me to'
I use these "devices" or apparel, and like 'em a lot, if you guys don't want 'em anymore, let me know, I'll take 'em off your hands. Work great mowing the yard or on the boat imo.
Just a wet towel. We wore cooling vests in AZ. Just a vest that held wetness against your skin, and with no humidity they were Bose dry in an hour
The Chilly Tie works good for a while, the stick it back in the ice chest for a few minutes then your go to go for a while.
This works. Combine it with a frogg togg chamois and you will notice a big difference out in the heat.Attachment 166133
Solar and battery powered fan.
I will look around I think I have an old one that needs to be rewired I could give you.
I picked up the Chilly Pad today and will test it cutting grass. Amazing how much you can learn and money you can save here at CDC.
And how much money you can spend as well :)
Boys take a towel lay long way- pour on half a bag of ice. Roll like a cigarette tie off each end . put around your neck. Try it once you'll never get to hot again.
Wife brought one home from Lowe's and I like it. Mowing (moving) helps a lot. Breeze of any kind helps a bunch. Standing still, not so much.....but the sweat still rolls
and keeps it damp. I think the snap is a joke cause I couldn't feel any difference. Keeps the sweat out of my eyes and the neck cooler. Still researching.
