Having issues with trolling motor keeping up pulling cranks. Like to pull about 1.8 mph, fishing out of a 521 ranger. Big motor will run about 2.5-2.6
Would pulling a drift sock slow me down to close to the 1.8 mph range? Or any other ideas? Thanks

It should but you may have to play with the sock size to get your speed right. Might get expensive.
You could get a 36 volt/112 pound Terrova trolling motor and solve all your problems or try a couple of other things.
One-- you could run a double drift-sock rig where they are stationed under the front 1/3 of your boat, behind the trolling motor. You take one end of the rope and tie it off to a cleat. Run the rope under the boat (all this is done with the boat on the trailer) and position the 2 drift socks equally, one on one side, the other on the opposite side, then run the other end of the rope to a cleat on the direct opposite side of the boat. That way the 2 socks are equal distances apart and under the boat rather than beside or behind it.
Two, buy yourself a Trol-a-matic trolling plate and install it on your lower unit. I have one and use it at times but my 80 pound Terrova pretty well takes care of all my trolling neeeds.
A couple of 5 gallon buckets with about a 3 inch hole in the bottom of it will solve the prob. Feelay on the MS board does this and it works great. He also drills holes for a rope to take place of the metal handle.
Do you have a power pole? If you do, you can get a paddle that is made to slow you down which mounts on the bottom of the thing. Never used or seen them used but it would be worth looking into...
Get these they work fantastic, 1 off each side. I tie off front cleat and hook the dump line to the rear cleat. http://www.amazon.com/Package-Anchor...ef=pd_sim_sg_5
Tried the 2 buckets and didn't help slow up much. Had them about 5-6' behind the boat. Next step is drift sock I guess
I pull cranks at 2.9-3.1 during the summer months. Works fine!
I don't know Rickie but it does, also dragging them against the side will help as well not letting them get behind the boat.
With no holes they can only fill up once. with the holes they keep collecting water. The drift socks also have a hole in the end. Trust me Rickie,I wouldn't lie to ya.
Had 2 buckets each with a 3" hole in the middle of the bottom of each bucket
I put my holes in the sides at the bottom and they are 1" in diameter none in the bottom put about six or eight holes around the bottom
then holes for the rope handle and a piece of 1" pvc across the mouth of the bucket, run the rope threw the pvc and threw the handle holes come around and tie it off forming a loop then a rope tied to that loop and back to the boat
one bucket setup would slow my 17ft deep v boat real well
