Humminbird shopping list
Hello all
my wife was nice enough to buy me a new trolling motor for fathers day.
I'm getting the 80# terrova ipilot link:-)
I figured since I'm going to have a fancy trolling motor, why not get the most out of it and buy a fancy fish finder to go with it.
So I'm almost sure I want the humminbird 1199ci SI combo and the 360.
So far I know that I'll need a 5 port Ethernet switch and two Ethernet cables.
I was hoping yall might give me some advice on other things I might need to get this hooked up.
Im still unsure about the 360, I know ill wind up knocking the transom mount 360 off, I'd prefer to have the one that mounts to the trolling motor. But from what ive read, it dosent work on electric steer motors.
Any information and advice is much appreciated

I want to show you this picture to give you an ideal of what to expect from the 360.in this picture the bottom dept is about 22 ft. Theres a circle
With a 20ft. mark on it .that 20ft. mark is the offset that I choose.
In this senerio if you have a twenty ft.boat with the 360 mounted on the rear with the water dept 20 ft, the bottom reading that you see were the water column meats the bottom is twenty ft. from the transducer.to see structure on the bottom out in front ,it must be at least twenty ft.
Now imagine moving the 360 to the front?

Kosmo.....I think I understand what you are getting at.
The 360 on the transom makes it easier to hold the bow over the structure which might otherwise be obscured by the water column?
I have been thinking that the 360 on the bow would increase your forward view by 20', but have not been in the boat with a 360 to actually use it.
-
So your saying with the 360 on the stern, your actually able to pick up structure closer to the bow?
-
Yea, both of you are corrrect in all that you posted.so a persons preferred fishing method should be considered when deciding what mount location would be best while using the 360.(Yes the bow mount will have increased foward range, but will not be the best way to go for a vertical fishing technique) and of course money should be considered. The bow mount is alot cheaper
-
I just thought id post so to make clear that the water column to the bottom is not straight down, but is actually down and out.depending on the dept
-
Thanks for that info kosmo, we spyder rig mostly. Seems like it'll really be effective for that, might even save me some grief and tackle from those pesky trees at reelfoot.
Im kind of worried about installation tho, my boat is a 2008 20/72 tracker grizzly, it's got conduit running from the starboard side console to the bow. Will it hurt to run the transducer cable, Ethernet cable in the same conduit as two power power wires for the 1199 and bow navigation lights?
-
My trolling motor wires are on the port side, but I was unsure if I'd get interference from those two power wires
-
Do youu nos someone that has a sc unit?if you do you might want to go out on real foot with them, just to see how affective sc will be on that mud bottom there.(hard bottom makes these units work the best)
Theres always a possibility of getting interference, might want to experiment with cable location
I no that running into something with the 360 is always a big concern, especially in a lake such as reel foot.
While in real shallow water I run my transducer pod no lower than the bottom of my boat and it still works just fine. Actually it can be run a little higher than the bottom and still work.
-
Whats the deepest water that you will be scanning in ? If its like 10 ft. ,that won't affect you much having the pod on the front
-
No, I don't know anyone with SI unit or di unit. The deepest waters will be 30-40 but it'll be mostly run in 5-12 foot of water.
spoke with humminbird again, they advise not to run the Ethernet cable next to the td cable. I'm going to check around and see if there are any products that may help protect against interference.
the way my boat is currently set up, it'd be a pain to remove the decking to run them seperate
-
This is just some info.theres no guarantee of being interference free.
I think that you said you were going to one control head and a 360 right.the 360 runs on 455kHz and while the 360 is running ,the software in your unit shuts the pinging off to your si,which is 455/800.all thats left pinging would be your 200/83 2d and the 455 on the 360.there shouldn't be any interference (imo) between the two.
If you have a bow mount 360,there an option to stop pinging while not using.if you have a transom mount 360,when you retract it the pinging stops automatically. Maybe you could call humminbird and verify with them to make sure, but thats the way that it should work

I also have a 5 port ethernet switch thats as good as new that I could give you a really good deal on.ill give you the ethernet cable also.
If your interested,just pm me

Thanks for all the info kosmo!!!! It's a big help, I thought buying new toys was supposed to be fun? But to spend 4 grand on these toys and hoping they'll work the way I expect is kind of stressing me out a little. And the lack of knowledge I have on electronics isn't helping.
I'm reading as much as I can about all of this and this forum is by far the best source of info Ive found!
I'll be sure to email humminbird and ask them about the SI and di shutting off when 360 is activated. The 2d was what I was worried about causing interference. I'm pretty sure that the hb tech that I talked to mentioned that.
I also found out that I would have to buy a Y cable and transducer switch to use the 2d sonar on the trolling motor. That would probably eliminate any interference that might be caused by the transom mounted transducer?
Thanks again

Got another question, ive read the installation instructions a half dozen times for the ts3 hummingbird transducer switch.
without having the electronics in front of me, it's hard for me to comprehend.
I would like to be able to use the 2d sonar thats on the terrova trolling motor and use the 360 at the same time.
from what ive read, I need the y cable and the transducer switch. Humminbird didnt mention a y cable in their instructions, or did I miss it?

Thanks for the link, but I'm still unsure if I even need the switch.
went ahead and placed my order today, ive got another two and a half weeks to read up on it before the fun begins.
Figured out a mounting solution also
http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResul...5/Default.aspx
looks very sturdy!
transducer question, is it ok to mount the 360, 1199 transducer and a lowrance transducer on the same side of the boat? Or should I put the two transom mounted transducers on the other side of the motor? How far apart should they be? I may wind up buying a thru hull for the lowrance, not sure just yet.
-
Danny,
Could you send me a direct e-mail with what you ordered and how you want this all to work? To be able to use the US2 sonar transducer with the 360 Imaging transducer or use the 2D/Si/Di sonar from the HDSi transducer you will need a switch but I don’t know where the y-cable comes into the connections.
Unless you ordered it; you will need one of the AS-EC-QDE Ethernet Adapter Cables to go from the 1199ci HD Si unit and the Ethernet Cable.
