Hate to hear that. I sure did enjoy reading his post. What a character.
That is sad news.
Did not know him well, but seemed to be a man with a big heart.
Ahhh Man ... I was sure Shoer was gonna beat his illnesses with shear determination and grit.
Sad to hear of his passing. R.I.P. Horseshoer
... cp :kewl
I'm really sorry to hear that. Jeff and I really got along good here along with others. I really missed him when He left and unfortunately lost touch with him. We really had a good time at some of the NWR Bashes chewing the fat after the fishing was over. I know as many others here knew him, He really lived life in his Younger days and unfortunately did not die old. I used to love reading his post on some of the stories He had from when He lived in Arizona and the guy was just a nut and a Hoot to read. He had a good heart and took many people fishing that were new here when He did not even know them. Even offered up his house for people to stay for bashes that came from a long ways away. I will say a line from Lonesome Dove Using his name. That was one of his favorite movies that we shot lines back and forth to each other on here.

Sorry to hear that. R.I.P. Jeff.
He was an original.

I fished with Jeff a couple of Bashes and once at Prince on a 100+ degree day, some of the worst fishing I've experienced. I think in three trips we caught five fish between us, but it was some of the best times I ever had. We were from as different as backgrounds as could be, him a farm boy from Minnesota, me a beach bum from here. We shared stories from and laughed all day long. He will live long in our memories I'm sure.
I found his obituary. Click here.
I was trying to find the pic of him in the bathtub reading a book title, "Why men have nipples". He was quite the character.
this is really sad, I remember him keeping us all in stitches and he had more posts than anyone else I knew of.
Rest in peace Jeff.
Sorry to hear......prayers for the family
Always enjoyed reading his posts. I would like to have met him.
STILL SO YOUNG TOO .... shoulda been around another 20 years , he worked on my horses feet the whole time I knew him , every time I went crappie fishing with him he would ask several times " hey you wanna hit this " and he was in the back of the boat smoking pot more than he was fishing, he was out thee for sure - but then again that's why he N me got along so well - being as complex as I am .... he would spend 2 or 3 hours fishing in my pond out back when ever he came to do the horses feet -

Never met Shoer but read many of his posts...What a character ! Obviously an original one of a kind individual. May he be at peace and with the Lord above . FB
This is very sad news. I don't get on here very often, but Jeff was one of the first people to welcome me aboard and befriend me when I first joined the forum. I never got to meet him, but it would have been my honor to do so.
R.I.P. Jeff! May God be with you and lead you to well stocked waters and bountiful Gardens on the other side!

Definately a fun gun and while I never met him in person had a lot of laughs here on the board. Be at peace buddy we'll miss you.
Great pic Slab!!!!!!!!
Very sad news indeed,
The Shoer I remember was sure enough out spoken!
When I finally met him he greeted me with a hand shake, embrace, and smile.
He once posted a picture of a mason Jar full of pickled Crappie :yikes but it intrigued me want to make some LOL, he always seem to have something going on..
Thats the Jeff I remember.
R.I.P.
Mike
Sorry to hear this! May God Bless his family and friends!
Awwwww! Sorry to hear this. It was nice to see that he was able to be close to family in the end. One post I will remember was him hitting the weed at the end of fishing and proceeding to drive home at like 5 miles an hour.. I fell out of my chair laughing.
He gave me many memories of his experience with gardening, his kind heart in giving and his humor that left me with a belly ache over and over. I remember once him posting a picture of himself in front of a plate PLUMB full of corn on the cob. The next picture was the plate with just the cobs, him sitting back rubbing his gut and his dentures atop the pile of cobs. I laughed and laughed. Thank you Jeff for everything you gave us. RIP.
Sorry to hear this, I fished with Jeff a few times and had lots of laughs. RIP Jeff.
Oh my. I went up to Walter Mill pond, and came out empty. He called me to see how I did. Well he showed up at my camp site that evening with a watermelon and told my wife and me stories that I'll never forget. He was a special guy at that.
Sorry to hear that. He took me for a ride once on the Onion, we had a good day catching crappie. Hope he's at peace now.
He was quite the character. Danced to his own drum. Rest in peace.
Shoe was the man. I fished with him a couple of times, and had a blast! RIP.
Never met him, but I can tell by the comments here that he was an original! From one cowboy to another Happy Trails My Friend!http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/or...c5437c9215.jpg
I'm sorry for bumping this back up to the top but I no longer live in Virginia and hence, I only check this forum once every few months.
This really depresses me. It's sadder to know he was up here in Minnesota, which is where I live now. If I'd known that and had a way to get in contact with him, I would have.
I met Shoer a few times back at Diascund and again at Chickahominy. What a nice man. I was really sorry to see how his stint on the forums ended, I still don't know that full story....but I do know that when I met him, he was one of the nicest dudes I'd ever met.
There was a big age difference between he & I when we met but he spoke to me as a peer fisherman rather than a kid in his 20's talking to a 50-something year old man.
I will always remember his AWESOME posts.....tapping the water to "call" crappie in....the little scare-crow cabbage patch kid he put in his garden and posted pics of all the time.....Also I don't know if you guys remember but he was also mentoring a young boy who lived on his street who didn't have a strong father figure. He was teaching the young man to work in the garden.
I am a fan of the Arizona Cardinals and he used to tell me how he & a friend used to watch Cardinals games from some nearby mountain lookout, on horseback.
Also, I never told him or anyone this but I kept thinking about his vocation - shoeing horses and he would always talk about how no one was taking up the trade anymore. At one point I told my wife "I should ride along with him some times and learn how to do it....I know he'd 100% be happy to share his talent". I wish I had.
Man....those were good times and I barely even knew the guy. But he was always willing to offer up his "spots" on the lake & river. I don't think he cared at all about how many fish he caught, he just enjoyed being out there and making friends.
So sad to hear this. Shoer, thanks for the memories buddy.
Found this pic in an old file yesterday, happier times for sure. http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/...ps82779983.jpgIf you had told me then they would both be gone now........ Well maybe they're together again making fun of my red hat all over again. Miss you guys!
Sorry to hear about the loss. Prayers sent.
What a guy,met him on the side of the road one day to pick up some hard to find heirloom tomato plants he scored for me,took time out to do that for me when he read my post in the garden thread, deal was to save him some seed from the best plant.Good ole country boy.Rest In Peace Jeff
I thought his bit on southerners and your grits was pretty funny, he said hard as he tryed he could nt get nothing from em, had a picture of him eating, smoking, snorting, and the last one was him with a spoon full of grits and a syringe. Definitely a character...
I can't even begin to say how sad it makes me to see ole Jeff die like that. I knew him very well and while I wouldn't even pretend to be as unique and funny as he was we grew up in much the same way. I fished with him one bash and a couple other occasions. Offered his boat to me so i didn't have to drag mine north to fish the trolling motor only lakes with my boy. One day on the lake up there a friend and I were fishing under the bridge and Jeff came walking down the road whistling Dixie and said "I got something for you and knew you'd be here". He tossed me a pack of my favorite jigs because chatting the night before I mentioned I couldn't find any south of the tunnel. I'll miss you buddy R.I.P Jeff.
