Don't think there is a limit other than a daily limit.
Doubt they will come in your house and check your freezer.
It is actually twice the daily limit per fishing license!!!
I'm with clfarms, I couldn't find a possession limit anywhere. There is for waterfowl but I say load up the freezer with fish, there is no where that says you cannot
but how many fish do you need unless your having a big fish fry. If you have taken a limit for 14 days that is 420 filets. just say in:dono
If I feel like cleaning fish I clean em and keep whats legal up to the limit. Some times there may be 1000 filets in my freezer and sometimes there are none. I share fish out of our with a lot of folks who cant fish any more, share a lot of fish with folks that are able but just don't have time, they clean. This year I have put up very few because I have had guests in the boat with me and they took the fish.
Point is, what difference does it make how many fish anyone else has in their freezer as long as it was done legal, their business not mine.
I should come over and take a few bags so you don't get thrown in jail or have them confiscated.
There are numerous lakes and rivers in Illinois that have no size or creel limits on crappie. How can they impose a possession limit for your freezer? I have yet to meet a CPO that can come to a house, check the freezer, and determine from which waters the crappie were caught. Only daily limits from a given lake can be enforced.
IMO it's much harder for a lake to become over-fished than it is to be under-fished and also harder to bring an under fished lake back up to par. So if you fill your freezer and eat or give it away, go for it. I don't believe in waste, but if you go through 420 or 1000 filets in a year and they were caught legally then that's your right to do so. Creep surveys are taken and limits are set to keep your lake in the best conditions possible.
I knew I would get hammered for my comment and that ok, I know alot of people give fish away, I do too. I gave quite abit to crappie camp this spring, friends and neighbors. So catch away.
I asked about possession limits before and they don't pertain to the freezer. It pertains to being in the field. If you are camping somewhere for a multi day trip, there is a daily limit which we all know, then there is the possession limit. If the possession limit were 40 fish with a daily limit of 20 then you could possibly catch all the fish you could legally keep in just 2 days.
Thanks for the feedback, I will just keep filleting & freezing. This will give me plenty to give away. This will save them.
I weren't hammering dude just tapping you on your shoulder a little bit..:Rofl
I will say this, my freezer is cleaned out every winter, don't have a fillet in my freezer rite now older than a couple of months and need more rite now and will get em, cranking time is almost here. I carry others during the spawn now where used to it was the only time I fished, single pole one morning this year and that was pre-fishing for a tourney, caught 5 short fish and put the trolling poles back out.
Rees I know it was just a tack hammer, but you say cranking time is almost here and we have been pulling them all month of here and your a month ahead of us down there. Why not pull cranks earlier there. I think it would work when we were there in March if is wasn't for all of the boats.
Because it doesn't produce fish, plain and simple. Been pushing a little bit but longlining and slo-trolling minners is still out producing cranks. Its fixxin to change tho. Nader is slower on cranks than Enid and Sardis for some reason, this fall while you are here Enid will be good on cranks but I wouldn't drive down to Nader to pull cranks if I were you, it will be a lot slower day. Nader will be at its peak for cranks middle of July till middle of August, Enid and Sardis both are fixxin to get real good and will stay that way till over in October. Why, I don't know.
Hmmmm!!!!!
My understanding is that your possesion limit is twice the daily limit and that includes fish in the freezer. If daily limit is 25 than you can not possess more than 50 fish. You may think that the freezer is off limits but you would be wrong if you are caught with an over limit while fishing their is a good possibility that they may come check your freezer. Just read and article from Wi were a fisherman was watched catching his limit in the morning and taking fish in and heading back out and resumed fishing, he was caught with 72 fish in his possession (25 was limit) they then proceeded to his home were they discovered another 900 fish in freezer. How much is enough guys this is the kind of fishing that ruins a fishery. When you reach your limit fish for another species or practice catch and release, when freezer empties go get some more. We all need to leave some for the next generation.
:Rofl:Rofl I remember when there weren't limits, crappie population did just fine. Yes there are down years but it is caused most every time by a past poor spawn not someone catching them out.
Are far as possession limits and what someone does with legally caught crappie that is their business. If you have multible licensed folks in your home them that number would go up.
Oh yeah, my grandfather and mom and a bunch of other older folks would much rather me bring them fish that is cleaned and packaged.:biggrin

PART 810 SPORT FISHING REGULATIONS FOR THE WATERS OF ILLINOIS
SECTION 810.35 STATEWIDE SPORTFISHING REGULATIONS – DAILY CATCH AND SIZE LIMITS
Section 810.35 Statewide Sportfishing Regulations – Daily Catch and Size Limits
4) CRAPPIE (WHITE, BLACK OR HYBRID CRAPPIE)
There are no catch or size limits except in those waters listed under Site Specific Regulations.
So you can catch 500 a day and have 5000 in your freezer if you want in Illinois as long as you aren't taking them from a lake with limits.
^^^^^ dunzo!!!^^^^
How about the fish that is right on the line ten inches. Over or Under?
under
How are they going to tell what lake or even a pond they came out of without doing some high dollar testing on them? Unless you are caught red handed they are not going to do any. Just my :twocents
