CK first Crappie Flatlining.

Thanks to many of you I am starting on a new adventure. I installed my new Terrovw Minn Kota Saturday and could not wait to get it on the lake and try its paces. I know it is a major holiday on Lake Wylie and boat traffic is what I expected terrible but still had to get out. Was not expecting to catch fish just wanted to get out. Love the I-pilot. Where have you been all my life. Well we caught A Kitty first then a Bream Finally caught a nice 1 pound 13 inch Crappie. Last we caught a green carp. Not one time did lines cross but we hung up 4 times and broke off with 4 pound test.
Even though I expected the heavy traffic was almost completely swamped by ocean liners and 3 times I said "really" when they came close by, I still got my first impression of what the I-Pilot can do. Now a pic of my Son-in-law holding my first prize Crappie. I had to release him. I am taking baby steps with this and only used 6 poles off the back.

Awesome! Nothing like getting your feet wet for the first time :) Good to hear you were able to catch a few on a holiday weekend, that's a good start. At least you have started off in the right direction and you can add some more rods as you learn, 8 is what I pull most of the times and you are almost there.

Congrats on getting out and using your I-pilot. Just the first of many crappie I am sure.

You are an I-Pilot devotee now. I even put a Bimini top on my Tracker and I have longlined and spider rigged while standing under the top to get out of rain or hot sun. It really makes fishing more fun, especially if you are by yourself of if the wind is blowing. Congrats on your success. You got more nerve than me though. I would not want to be on a big lake this Holiday weekend.

Searay, me and Allen fished the hill this morning and never saw another boat until after 9AM (3 hrs into our trip). At 10:30AM we saw our first ski boat running about 50 mph that came within 75 feet of us so that's when it was time for us to call it quits.:biggrin

CK, I know it felt good getting out to try your new "toy" and congrats on your #1 Longlined crappie. I know there will be many, many more of those to come too.:ThumbsUp

Congrads on the I-pilot, and great Rod holders also... I'm impressed you could hang on Wylie with all the Boat traffic, I don't think I could've handle that.

I went cheap on the rod and reels. Bass Pro Shop had a sale on 14,12,9 feet rod and reels for $39 each. about 5 years ago. Still liking them. Off of the back I have 14 feet on both outside next inside is 11 Feet and 9 feet cover the middle for 6 poles. Right now 6 poles is enough for me. Seem to be a good balance of not getting lines crossed and easy to turn.

Big Dawg need to go out with you sometime and get some pointers from a pro like you.

Man have I got you fooled. I just go and do what I feel will work. I have never got to sit in the back seat and reel them in. I'm always the one running the tm or netting the fish. But it sounds like you got the handle on it already. Good luck I'll see you out there.

I just got back from Gander Mountain I got 2 10' and 2 12' rods and reels for $39.95 each they are Zebco Crappie Fighters. They can't be too good for the price, but I'm not going to catch Mobbie Dick with them. They didn't have anything shorter or longer.
I got some hives alb test and some mono for leader, a few 1/8 oz and 1/16 oz heads. A couple different colored plastic.
I'm re spooling right now. Gotta wait till next weekend to fish.

Glad to hear you were able to get our and try out that new I-pilot. In a few more trips you might have to find additonal livewell space when you start pounding the Wylie Slabs!!!!

ScooperDude that is a good start. If you go 6 off the back with three on each side. Outside will be 12' out 90 degree next inside will be 10' 45 degree. Middle two can be short poles straight out. 6 poles out of back is my compromise for less tangles and it turns better.
