An urgent plea

Spent about 4 hours on Sledd Creek this morning. First time out in the “big” lake in a long time. The bass were OK and I spent most of the time checking the motor, which hasn’t been run in long time. The only really bad part of the outing was that the Bow Fishers had left their catch by the side of the parking lot to rot. The stench was horrific. I had to pull to the far end to get the boat and trailer ready to go down the road. If anyone here knows those who do this, ask them to please stop . At the very least have them throw the carcasses back in the lake so the catfish and the turtles can eat them.

I've ran into that very thing myself at Sledd. Rest assured if I find out who it is it is gonna hit the fan. It's that kind of crap that can ruin things for everyone. TVA can gate the whole place off if they take a mind to do it.

That is against the law and they can get a HEFTY FINE!

Different but similar issue at the Lilly Crk ramp on Lake Cumberland - stripper carcass's left there.

We share the water with some really stupid people. Lots of the bowfishermen in our area are just a bunch of snot-nosed kids who think everything they need to know about the outdoors can be learned from the Outdoor Channel. Get your pictures, paste them on Facebook then on to the next adventure. No concern for how they leave the facilities we all use.

We can all make a dent in such actions by getting boat or license plate numbers if we see this happening and calling 1-800-25ALERT and reporting them.

Notice to Bowfishermen - We, your fellow sportsmen, request that you dispose of your catch in accordance with the applicable laws, and rules of common courtesy. This means not leaving them to rot by the side of the launch or parking lot. Doing so makes the area almost unusable, and presents a bad image of all sportsmen. We have reached a point where we are forced to use surveillance measures to identify those who chose to damage our resources. We will turn over to the proper authorities all information to prosecute those who make these facilities disgusting to use. You have been warned.

Same thing below Barkley....rotting, stinking fish everywhere! Went to ramp below Ky. same thing there ....right in the parking area.

I wonder if some of that is that huge Asian Carp die off??

No - they were lined up side-by-side next to the parking lot.

And Wiskers - I spent some time looking in the Regs and could not find any reference to disposal of fish. If you (or anyone) knows the specific regulation please post is there. Thanks

All that needs to be done is to go on Facebook or other social media sites and match up photos of bowfishermen gloating over their kills in the parking lots and the carp left by same fishermen. This is being done late at night when others are rarely on the parking areas but the carp shooting is best. The sportsmen in this group get their pics then dump the fish back into the river after they have cut the swim bladders.

Clint, I would say fish left in parking areas and on the rocks below the dams is nothing more than litter to LEOs. Serious fines should deter those stupid enough to see this as a good thing. Confiscate a boat and truck or two and it would stop QUICKLY. Daddy is not going to be happy with Jr. about having to go to Frankfort and buy his rig back at the F&W auction.

Clint ... Wannabe was referring to the post by "Ricky", about the rotting fish below the dams. That was my first thought, too, when I read the post by Ricky.

We cut ours from gills to vent like you're gutting a shad and chunk them right back in after shooting. They sink like a stone. I've never really understood the need to haul them around all day or night just to take a picture of them laying on the bank. They stink bad enough right after you get them in the boat. If we do collect some in a bucket if the shooting is fast, we carry them downstream and then cut 'n sink.

I found the following in the report from the Marshall County Fiscal Court meeting.

Parks Director, Larry Whitt, spoke to confusion over the landscaping at the new Health Department. Spraying for weeks, clean up of construction debris and dirt work needs to be done before planting can take place. The city of Benton requested the services of a park employee with expertise in this area for consultation but Whitt says a lot of work needs to be done first.

Whitt also addressed vandalism that has taken place at a day-use park as well as fish from bow-fishing being left on the banks. The Bow-Fishing Association of America offers a $500 award for anyone turning in those who leave the fish on the bank. Legally, the bow-fisherman are to slice the belly or pop the air-flow of the fish and let them sink down to the floor of the lake. Signs are posted, but the court talked about the possibility of survellance cameras to stop these practices.

I marked the section of interest. I find the reward interesting. Now we need to figure out how to get the word out to the ones making the mess.

Heck, for $500 I'll go sit in the parking lot and take pics for them. :biggrin
