well talk about humbling went to Barkley yesterday trying to get on some Bullgills and redear. well caught a couple of smaller gills a few small cats,and a very nice crappie . could not find a sniff of a redear or any of the big gills. I tried shallow and deeper on pea gravel banks but couldnt find any of the mustard grass areas.was wondering if anyone had any other ideas or was i completly off base. thanks for any input :Rofl
Caught some nice crackers and a few big gills about 2 weeks ago and then the front from the middle of the week came in and I went out this Saturday with no luck. Went back last night and caught a few good ones but not enough to clean. I think if the weather stays warm for the rest of the week they should be back on the beds, thats my opinion anyway.Quote:

The weather has them all jacked up! Every time they get ready to make a move a strong front moves in. I seriously doubt that they have spawned.
I sure picked a heck of a year to start a Guide Business! :biggrin
This should help showcase your tenacity and skill at finding them when they ain't where they s'posed to be. Any guide (not me) can follow the fish through their normal spawning cycle. It takes the best to find em this year. :juggleQuote:

I can't say I have any sway in whether the fish bite or not, but you can bet that if/when I'm on the water ... the wind is going to find me, and mess with me. And no sooner than I go to a bank/spot that is calm, the wind will start blowing there, too. Never fails !! :banghead

I'm coming back down to camp at big bear resort this weekend. I've got some pretty good gills spots but could someone pm me an idea of where to begin a search to put my lady on a couple crappie. I was thinking about long-lining some deeper flats or following the creek channel out. Generally my main focus this time of year is gills/crackers. Thanks
Sounds like you already have a workable plan.
From yesterday. Sidescan the backs of bays for beds. They are moved off the beds but not far. Redears we've caught still have eggs.
Fished Barkley from Sunday afternoon till Wednesday evening and couldn't find many bluegill at all. All of our normal spots were dead got so bad we ended up long lining for crappie caught 23 crappie Wednesday with 3 catfish and 2 bass as kickers

I guess I should have posted this Friday. My Dad and I fished Barkley on Thursday and Friday mornings and the bluegill/redear bite was non-existent. We fished areas where I had sidescanned several beds and we had caught good numbers in the past. All we could get were a few small gills, some drums (gaspergoos for Chaunc), and more small catfish than we could shake a stick at. I think the 1st spawn is now over and it won't crank back up till the full moon phase in June. Sorry to throw a wet towel on some plans. Just the way I see it.
