Went back this morning. Couldn't get any of my boys to go so I went alone. I picked up 44 sacs and 7 bass. They were all around 8in perfect size for frying whole. I need to learn to count. Its not easy counting in a live well. I should of had limits on both. I left them biting. Fish were caught on shiners and chartreuse jig. 1 ft deep with a natural cork that looks like a cypress nut. I caught off laydowns that were in the shade. I covered a lot of river today.
Call me next time. Lol. I fished that area once around the park and caught a friggin black drum!

The park is on what we call the West Fork and the Houston River empties into the West Fork. It runs east and west north of Sulphur. Average depth is 20 to 25 ft. It is winding and narrow. Before this year it was almost un navigable. FEMA took out all of the laydowns. I use to fish and never see another boat. Today I saw about 20. One good thing is they all idled by. By the way I had a few full of eggs today.

water temp was 72 degrees.
There were plenty good lay downs were I fished but there was plenty of salt there too.

beautiful catch...I don't know about Houston river, but around here 7 bass is the limit!

Salt? Nice catchin. The river is cooler than the bayou. Water temp in the 80's already.
Yea. Where we were isn't far off from prien and calcasieu. Guess the tide and drought was just right for the salt to back up to where we were. Definitely enough salt for black drum and too much for sacalait.
