Amen!
Never had a Grandpa....Had a mawmaw who would watch a quill on the end of a cane pole, all day long though.
I only had one. But from the time I was 12 he let me chauffeur him, towing the boat, in his old AMC Gremlin station wagon. And, once we launched, I got to do all the boat driving too!
Yep , can remember making homemade corks from corn cobs and feathers . Never bought bait because the ditches had tons of crayfish and had his own worm beds to go with 30 or so catauba trees . He always wore one of the straw hats with a green visor and to this day anybody wearing one on the water draws my attention quick .
Yep, only had one myself. Started me fishing when I was 4 and he retired. We learned together. Sained minnows and craw fish from the creeks, dug worms, never had a boat parked on the dirt roads and walked through the woods to creeks and farm ponds. Fought the ticks and skeeters. Learned a lot of life's lessons sitting on one of those little folding camp stools. Got my bible lessons and how to treat people and live life lessons right there on the creek bank. No better way to learn. Sure would give anything for just one more day with him.
My father would takes us out and line up with this tree and that water tower and point in the distance and then take his cane pole and stick it down till he found the drop . He always found his spot . Always told me to mark an x on the side of the boat so we could find it next time . My momma would fish with the best of them too . All day . Yes we miss those days .
With a little lump in my throat, I give a big AMEN to all the above. I was very blessed also.
Yep
I had a grand paw but he was commercial fishing Sardis for catfish back then but Granny knew that spillway like the back of her hand. She was the 1 that really taught me to fish.I would take one of her long cane poles and a bucket of minners I got from Wallaces across the road from their fish camp and ride my bike to the spillway to her secret spot for crappie! She knew where they were!Great memories!
Miss those days, pop would have loved fishing and visiting with you guys at camps and tourneys. Took flowers to his grave Saturday and visited with him a little while, always tuff to go there but always seem to leave with a smile on my face. Cherish the memories and try hard to make time to make new ones with my girl!!
My grandma would fish all day long. She always took a smaller cane pole for bream and a big catfish pole. My grandad would sit and wait all day with his rod and reel. a larger shiner on a hook waiting for big bass. The last pic we had of them together, she had a 16 lb blue cat and he had a couple 4-5 lb largemouths.
I sure do miss those days as well !!!!! Like Donnie, I can't wait to pass that torch to my Grandkids tho.
Ahh... the Good Ol' Days
My granny would take me fishing down at the dock, they lived on Old Hickory Lake outside Nashville. Never had a boat, just the dock. Granddad didn't fish, just listened to the radio most of the day.
My only grandparent died when I was 4, but my parents took us all the time. This is a real nice post. thanks.
Yep, remember them days of cork, minnow and cane poles.
Grandpa is still around. ....He is called pepaw on here
