My crappie buddy an I got tired of taking thirty minutes to untangle our lines every time we fished or moved to a new spot. We spent the last few days brain storming, looking at pictures, and planning. We built a set for his boat and mine and they seem very stable and have enough room for guests to bring their rods and have a few spots for jig rods as well. Tomorrow morning, 5/12/14, they're gonna be put to the test. I'm open for sugestions and opinions.
Crappie fisher's are the most creative humans I know...

Looks good. Did you use bolts to seperate the rods? I'd be worried that the threads might rub the rods pretty bad from bouncing around if so. Nothing a little heat shrink or plasti-dip couldn't solve, though.

I don't want to be a wet rag in this discussion, but I've always wondered about having those rod holders being in the way at times. Now, if they disconnected or folded down after the rods were removed & placed into the spider rig holders ... that might make them a little more tolerable.
Times I figure they might be more "in my way" than a help in getting the rods "out of my way" are:
When fishing around standing timber
When boat is docked in a slip (esp stationary dock w/low water conditions)
When getting in/out of the boat at ramp or dock slip
When fighting/playing a big fish (along that side of the boat)
Other than that ... and if I had rods that long & a boat setup that would allow such a thing to be mounted ... that'd be a DIY project I think even I could handle. And that's coming from a guy that took shop class in Jr High ... and most projects undertaken ended up as pencil holders or book ends :Rofl

@ Badbrad. Jerry and I went out for a few hours this morning and fished the areas we had without any luck. Headed out on the main lake and saw them on the depth finder.....in 32 fow and suspended 24-28' deep. We kept 13 till the wind got up, but man those 13 were all 11" and over.
@ Pappy We made sure the stick steer was clear of the rods and holder and when the rods are in use its pretty much open. If I do want to remove them, all I need do is to remove 4 screws from each upright. The one thing we did notice this morning, I usually get in the boat while in the parking lot on the port side but not this morning. Then when I pick up my buddy Jerry at the dock, I had to stop and think about the wind and dock position. I'll get used to it. The best part is when you start fishing its not a birds nest of rods and lines to untangle before you fish, and when your ready to make a move, drop them in the slot and pull the bungy cord over them and your ready to roll. That was the best part.
I know what you mean about having to get used to doing things a little different, after adding things on the boat. I have to be a little more careful when getting into/out of the boat when launching/trailering ... when I have the rod holder attached :Rofl (and launching/trailering by myself).Quote:

Rod locker locks, so I can keep them out of sight & secure when I'm traveling or in a dock slip, or when I'm not using all of them.
