What is that?
It is called a longtail bass they'ret caught in deeper waters offshore. My brother caught two of them this weekend. Just thought it had a lot of lines that look like a Crappie especially around the mouth and head. The meat is very similar but slightly sweeter. Very neat looking fish
Color is similar to a Vermillion snapper but it scales are smaller really neat looking fish, mouth is just like a Crappie
We call those Queen Snapper they have scales like a flounder or a Silk Snapper very pretty fish
Attachment 161527this is a longtail bass. Similar to a queen snapper but they are smaller and don't have a forked tail.
Attachment 161528here is a queen snapper. The thing about snapper is they are called so many different things. The bass has body lines just like a crappie
Yea a lot of snapper have the same name in the fisherman's guide I guess it depends where and who you fish with. In the guide those fish have the same name but as you pointed out they are totally different fish the Longtail is a much prettier fish. The queen is also called Ball-bat and Silk but what we call a silk looks more like a Longtail with a small fork in tail with very fine scales and a yellow eye. We only catch them every once in a while.
That is a huge one is it a record fish.
I caught a lot of red snapper as a young man but never saw one of these. In Ark. they fish with "rosey reds" ; it's a shiner this color.
Not sure about a record but it sure did taste good! As much as I love to fish crappie I sure do get excited off of fishing offshore just because of the suprise of catching an unusual fish. It's kind of like bass fishing and accidentally catching a Crappie.
I love offshore fishing I just cant afford it any more, I can fish fresh water for three months for what it cost to go one time offshore.
