Yes, definitely have noticed this at Thunderbird this year. Caught well over 40 in the past week and 2 have been 10"+. Frustrating!
Lots of smaller fish at Carl Blackwell, too.
Couldn't really say as we still have ice on the lakes up here in northern Wisconsin. Open water season started last Saturday. I'll be down there in two weeks to find the big guys for you folks, lol.
Dang Huntin... You still have ice? It's 90 something here today.
LoL
Speaking only of Kaw, the lake is normally up and down from spring rains. The rising water seems to occur right at spawn, ruining it.
The last couple years of drought has kept the water level constant, so we have had good spawns, hence the smaller fish.
The big crappie are still there.
Hope you're right.
We have caught a lot of small fish here on the big E also...we fish anywhere from Coal creek to the very north end
Yes they are smaller at the Thunderbird. 4 times out now I have fished a total of 8 hours or so and only netted 2 fish at 12". The other 20 something have been between 7"-10". I want to say they have been averaging 9". Real frustrating as in years past they have been between 10"-12" for me. Of course I haven't fished the spawn in 2 years and last time I did it was a drought and the weather was more stable (hotter temps and less rain).
Hey, y'all. I posted a note here a couple of weeks ago about not being able to fish because my great grandson had nearly drowned. Several of you posted that you were praying for Mason. Your prayers were answered in a very positive way. The doctors had feared that Mason had suffered brain damage as he had been unconscious for quite awhile and his oxygen levels were critical. But he was held for two days at the hospital and pronounced 100% OK.
When I came back to this thread, the posts were gone, so I can't thank all of you individually. But all of you who prayed are truly appreciated, and our family would like to give you a heartfelt thank you.
