Without knowing the discharge curve for the battery, the temperature it will be used in, the actual capacity of the battery, the current needs of the device it will be used with along with the cutoff voltage for the device: it is hard to predict whether a certain battery will work long enough for you or not.
Although, the 597ci HD DI unit should pull at most 615mA and assuming “all day” is 10 hours I am guessing that you would be cutting it close.
Thanks Greg for the reply. My neighbor is wanting to run a small separate battery instead of off cranking battery. When he cranks his motor finder cuts off. I have tried to explain ha probably needs a larger capacity cranking battery but that dosnt seem to sink in.
a small lawn mower battery will work, about $25 at Wally World.
See if you can get him to load test his battery cray and that may convince him. The local auto parts stores do it for free around here (they want to sell you a new battery).
Any 12-volt battery will work as a power source.
I run the same battery for ice fishing and in the boat..12 volt 9 amp. ice fish all day on a bucket.. no shanty..no problems..run it in the boat.. works fine..
A loose or dirty connection can cause that too.
I am going to try that Greg. My 998 started giving me a low voltage warning next to last trip, pulled battery checked with meter and took it to parts place. Guy tested it and told me it was good. Put it all back together and Wed it did same thing. Yesterday just went and got new battery. I know it's just a matter of time and it would let me down. Guess he will have to learn the hard way. But we are talking about a Engineer here and I'm just a dumb ole retired Diesel mechanic.
Thanks for all the input you give us Greg.
I run my 597 off that battery. Lasts as long as my trolling motor batteries if I am pulling cranks, I have an extra one for the chance it might run down.
Thanks for the replies guy's appreciate them.
I use a battery like that to run a HB 598. Seems to run it fine. Fished for 5 hours the other day with no problems. They are so small and light I bring a back-up just in case I need it.
