Square ice chest
Ice chest is the way to go, can mount an air pump to it and you will be good to go.
An ice chest would be great, but I can't find one small enough. My 5-gallon bucket is square (10" x 10") and the standard minnow bucket won't fit all the way into it. It's quite a climb down to my fishing hole, and those minners splashing all over doesn't make it any easier. But I love the square bucket. I took off the handle, drilled out the holes, and replaced it with a short bungy cord. I can carry it when it's empty, or wear it over my shoulder when it's full of fish. The flat side of the bucket keeps it from bouncing around as much against my back.
He is referring to the Engel but I honestly didn't think you were looking for something that big. Mine holds a lot of water and full prolly weighs over 60 pounds, pump sux by the way. Got an air supply in my boat. When closed and latched it will leak very little water even if turn upside down.
Rees has fished with me a couple of times lately and brought his Engel. I'm sold on them, love it. They are very nice bait coolers, but the one he has is 30qts and not something you would want to lug about on a bank fishing expedition. They do make smaller ones, I'm sure you can find them on line but be ready to spend some $$$$
I have the smallest engel and I love it but like was said pump s--ks. I bought mine at grizzly jig and yep they are pricey, think i gave close to 70 bucks for it wife wasnt too happy but i love it:twocents
Thank you, John, but you are right. It's way bigger than what I can manage. And I'm not going to haul a pump around, so I can't see spending the money on an Engel.
Here's a thought--can I just keep the minnows in the 5-gal bucket? I'm not worried about them living to see another day.
Yep and Lowes has a screw on lid for five gallon buckets to that will seal it so it wont be spilling out on you. I will take a pic of a seven gallon bucket I have set up to haul bait to put in my vat at the house, works well and the pump is not hard to deal with just don't get one like is on the Engel coolers.
Both let it go and it will die. Dependent upon how many minners ya need a six pack hard cooler may be the ticket. For 20-30 bucks you can get the cooler and an air pump. Maybe 5-10lbs. Should hold 3 or 4 dozen
I think this is what you are wanting.
This whole thread reminds me of a song by the Kentucky Headhunters..... Lets all go down to Dumas Walker, lol. They even had band members to.

All this over a minnow bucket???????????????
I got one in my closet I will measure tomorrow morning. If its the right dimensions I will bring it to sardis Friday and leave with someone and u can get it for free. Im planning on fishing friday and saturday.
I have a few of the round styrofoam liners that will fit in a round 5 gallon bucket. You're talking about lifting the liner out, put your catch in the bucket and sitting the liner back in. Saving the minnows. These liners won't slide out. I have to dump the water, turn them upside down and grip the liner someway to pull it out.
If the one Handi has doesn't work. Petco in Southaven gets their fish in styrofoam shipping boxes. Cut 2 corners off and seal them together with Aquarium approved Silicone. Keep me posted so I can collect what you'll need.
Thanks, canebreaker. Will do.
Dang I knew I shouldn't have went to sleep so early. I missed out it looks like!
Naw......you didnt miss anything
If the one Handi has won't work, go to Lowes or home depot. Get some of that blue foam sheeting, comes in small pieces. Cut sections to fit your bucket. Go to pet store and get tube of aquarium sealer. Make your foam pieces fit snug then seal seams with sealer. Got you a insulated bucket that fits your needs. A small air pump will help. I have found that freezing a couple of the small water bottles placed in a insulated bucket goes a long way in keeping your minnows.
Regular silicone sealer will kill your minnows.
Quick question- are you wading or adjacent to shore? If so, the flow-through bait buckets like these work great. We used them in saltwater and they kept lots of stuff alive. Obviously, the trick is to keep the bucket in the lake while you're fishing, providing bait with fresh water.

I'm not 100% sure that all of them will fit inside of a five gallon bucket but I'm sure there is one that will. I'm thinking about getting one for the boat. Cramming my smaller bait bucket with large minnows isn't working out all of the time.
I have a lunch bag you get them at wal mart has a strap to go over your shoulder and they are insulated works great for minners
Frabil makes a nice rectangular shaped one for $50.
I have a pink one here somewhere with the zipper broken that has a plastic liner in it.
I found this while looking for rags to clean with this morning. Is this the type of thing you're talking about, Donnie?
