When you are cleaning them and cut thru the egg sack and some of the eggs are loose and scatter, they are ready to lay.
I hear the bloody thing all the time but not sure I understand it or would agree with it. The eggs get runny when she is laying. They look yellow to me.
I thought the eggs got milky white ,prior to actual spawning . Am I wrong ?:scratchhead
Eagle 1, I have heard that also, but the KEY is the eggs being loose and not connected completely with the larger mass. I think that is the best tell of when she ready. Now go fishin....
Ones I cleaned last week were very loose and more of a pale yellow than the normal bright yellow
That seems sorta strange but the good news is....you got to see it!
if they squirt out when you grab hold of em then that's your sign!
I think the milky white is more of a fish that is not going to spawn for whatever reason. They will absorb the eggs and wait till next yeat
I see a lot of the same things y'all are discussing. Some with reddish yellow runny eggs, some with yellow yellow runny eggs, some with sandy yellow runny eggs, and some with milky light yellowish runny eggs. All in all there runny and yellow. The squeezing belly method mentioned is right on. That's your sure fire sign without even having to cut the fish.
