Man that last pic is fat one!!! Nice fish Steve
I didn't know that crappie eat their own.....
Adult crappies prefer forage fish found in the open-water areas of reservoirs,
particularly thread-fin and gizzard shad. They are, however, often willing to
feed on anything that fits into their mouths, including their own young. When
little or no prey fish are avail able, which is often the case during the winter and
early spring, adults will shift back to feeding on insects.
I caught 79 crappie and 38 bream out of a community lake one time and all on crickets. Fawn Lake near Shelby Forest! Go figure!
I have caught em on crickets as well but its not a bait I choose when targeting crappie, crappie were just a bonus while bream fishing.
If I remember I think BigH, uses crickets
Ive caught lots of bream and crappie putting a wax worm on a 1/16th oz. jig.
I was there bream fishing but the crappie were right there with them, Most every fish came off the same stretch of bank!
Nice looking fish.
I think they eat what they have to eat to survive but like us have preferences. I eat hotdogs but I'd rather have a steak!!!
That was one fat slab!
