Henderson Features Names

I have found some personal confusion in what name to call certain areas in Henderson. Maybe natives like Swampers could weigh in and straighten us out.

I'll start with Pelba. We all know leaving the rest area launch at I-10 that if you make the first North turn you are in Pelba. What if you go South? At a point below I-10 it meets up with Bigeaux. What is the lake called South of this intersection? Is it Pelba or Bigeaux. I've been calling it South Pelba and that's probably wrong. When I give a report to someone or here at CDC I don't want to give a bum steer by using the wrong name.

Pelba is also called Opelousas Bay. Sorry to confuse further

That would be south bejeaux

Opelousas bay is north of PelbA, far north end, bay Andy is the body of water that runs back south when you get to PelbA !!

No sir that would be gin slough!! Bay Andy is when u leave the public landing take the first right which is pelba, go down till it opens up, then you hang a right around the point and head back south to a dead end!! That would be bay Andy!!! Hope you understand my directions lol!!

Awesome thread! Now let's go south in that same body of water. I've always learned that the small straight canal on the left right into south Pelba, takes you to the old Ski Course. Keep heading south and you hit south Bijeaux, and you cross a point on your left far down where the house boats park, we call that Rabbit Island. Did well in that area last year over the grass beds at the end.

Bay haha is closer to Opelousas bAy

Is bay haha kinda the point area? Always called that haha and the further south we came we called it andy

How about begnaud, bayou long, couch canal, bay dadafe , toytoy, Carter's canal, tete la vash, lost bayou, a lot place to fish!!!!!! Just to name a few!!

I watched a ski boat vs wave runner collision in the ski course once. Not only did the dummy lose his wave runner that sank like a rock but he got a nice DUI from LDWF. Lucky to have swam away from that one.

Seems like we used to catch pretty good in toytoy, hadn't fished it in years....

Swamp man, is lost bayou north of the fordoche fuselier split, just south of the pipeline? We always called that hole duck lake, but it seems like I've heard it called something else....

Ok, the only bayou long I know is on the river ( L'embarras), that one, dadafe, and the couch have me confused

It would be nice if we started a new thread "Henderson Names" where we could post google pictures showing the names of places as we know them. Each one of us could put together our own Google map of Henderson pinpointing the names. An example below show the boat launch and the trestle. Just thinking out loud or is there a better way?

I took a stab at it....lots of places left off that I dont know the exact area, but tell me what and where to add and I can update and repost. I have this all saved to Google Earth, so adding in a location is very quick! Lunch break over, now back to work.:ThumbsUp
