past experience would be first, reports would always be a plus. or maybe water temp-vs. water depth for the time of yr.
I use my electronics when I first get on water. Phone reports can help too put you where most recent catches are however fish move a lot so don't feel bad if you go fish a place and don't catch one that your buddy just slayed them in.
Arkansas Sportsman Magazine. Strain the water start shallow move deep till you find them.
No luck crappie.com will show you the way just keep post and following their advice! Time on the water with good electronics has helped me as much as anything. Keep after'em and all your hard work will pay off!«fish on»
depends where you are, but this time of year, I usually start shallow in the afternoons, and if no fish there, then I start moving deeper. If that doesn't produce, I start moving and trying the same strategy in another area. and so on until I find some fish.
If you have a buddy that fishes the lake, ask him/her how deep, and structure they were fishing. Or do a search for the lake on this site, you might find another crappie.com member that fishes the lake you are on, send them a PM, most will give you a starting point, if not tell you everything they know about the lake.
Good luck, and don't give up, it takes some time to figure this stuff out. God knows I sure didn't learn anything one my 1st 296 trips on the water.
No luck,
I'm a novice myself but typically I start where I have caught fish before and find some consistency that way. I typically start deep and slowely work my way shallow in the area I know should be holding fish. What I have trouble with is fishing in 5-6 FOW and only fishing 1-2 ft deep, it's completely a mental thing for me. I have been a single pole fisherman all my life but after doing some research, watching a ton of YouTube videos, and listening to all the excellent advice on here, I'm caving in and buying a 4 pole spider rig.
I go by past experience and/or time of year.
I don't have any electronics or buddies that fish I mainly bream fish but want to learn how to catch crappie
I had no luck the last time I went. It was a total shock to me since I am not accustomed to such fishing. I think I will quit and take up golf:Rofl
Personally, I don't like to make the phone calls cause part of the fun fishing is the finding, but I'll tell you this, one more trip like the other day and someones phone is gonna be ringing off the hook. I think the first call is gonna be to D10 and ask him how many batteries I'll need in the boat to do that electro fishing thing. From his previous post, I've already figured out you need to do it at night.:Rofl
Hey RCC use 110 juice, if that don't work try 220 juice. Them fish really like it lol
I know that you goobers are fooling around. That's why we use a 5000 watt generator and an expensive power rectifier unit (shock box). This kind of equipment can be dangerous if used by someone who is not trainer properly. The rectifier turns the AC power into a less dangerous and harmful DC power (so I'm told). We can control the volts, duty cycle, pulse width, and amperage. Different setting are more affective on different fish.
And every bit of the above is true. Not only is what we have been kidding about illegal, it would be very easy to kill or harm yourself. My suggestion is to leave the electro fishing to D10. At least if he gets injured, maybe he can get on workmen's comp.
I heard recently of a situation in south arkansas where someone used a climbing deer stand to ascend a power pole to reconnect his electricity. From what I heard he is deceased now. Somethings are better left to the pros.
I known that y'all are just messing around and joking.
Hire a guide , best money ever spent to learn. not as expensive as you think when you hire the right ones.:fish:twocents:biggrin
