You have to string together a few nights with at least 50 degree lows. A good gauge is watch for dandelions to show up. Usually mushrooms aren't far behind.
Heard they are finding small reds at
La Cygnes last few days
We need some rain here in Coffey county i think. Friday night temp down to 32 not going to help.
Agree with zummy = need a little more warmth overnight. Couple more weeks at least IMO.
I am not far from Blackdog and agree we need moisture. However we needed it last year as well, and a couple storms arrived when the temps got just right and it was a banner year for shrooms. My daughter has been asking about mushroom hunting since December.
I always find them in the North Central part of the state when the Redbud trees are blooming. I agree with the night lows of 50's
Earliest I have found them in NE KS (basically state line north of Topeka) is first week in April (2 years ago). One year I didn't find any until about the first of May (last year). Normally its around the middle of April. This year will be later than normal unless we get an extreme heat wave. The soil temp needs to remain in the 50's for about a week and they'll start popping. Once the soil temps stay in the 70's they quit. Soil temp this morning was 38. Soil temps fluctuate much more than water temps that could make it to the 50's with a good week of weather. So that means we would need about 2 weeks of good weather to start seeing shrooms. I'm guessing around the 21st of April here. Further south will be earlier. Some years I hear of people finding them south of Topeka 2 weeks before I do.
I have them in my back yard. Nothing yet, but might be out in a week or so as the Asparagus is starting to pop up.
Their up south of Branson MO
Dandelions are up, hopefully we get some moisture this weekend.
We were out west of Clinton today todayalon the Wakie and saw nada. We were more focused on the fishin tho.
Couple more weeks I think. JMO.
Saw a facebook pic today of a buddy posing with the first one of the year. We were turkey hunting today and didn't find any.
We went to see if anything came up before the cold temps set it. Its way to dry even after the rain and snow. Dirt in the timber was like talcum powder.
I check every evening, will post when I find em.
Few small grays found yesterday around Lawrence. Looked to be freeze burns on the top. Just a few found.
None found today on Fort Riley. Still looking for rain sun/ mon to bring em up.
I'm afraid that much like last year we've just not had enough rain. We should know for sure by end of next week I'm guessing. Still fun to get out and hunt for them regardless.
A buddy said he found 4 on the Wakie yesterday.
Looked yesterday and nothing. However its currently raining here so maybe in the next couple of days.
Found about 30 small mushrooms on the kaw river, it seems that they show up in that sandy soil a few days earlier than in the heavier soils
25 smalls Friday on the Kaw
Al
We walked a ways today and didn't find any. Only got .04 rain. I think its too dry here.
Guy at work found 270 this afternoon, but he is over an hour away.
I found one batch of 16 this afternoon near Melvern Lake. They should be showing up with this moisture and warm nights.
We found 13 today but it was tough. Woods are bone dry. If we get rain this week it will be on.
Rain dance please
Found a small petrified one today and that was it in 2.5 hrs of looking.
Well a little rain, need a lot more but take what we can get, Now need some warm nights.
Well went this evening for bout 45 minutes and found half dozen think they are starting to pop. I am in Geary County...

Fun day with the family going after mushrooms. Little buddy figured it out and found 6 by herself today! We scooped up 27 ounces in all this afternoon. Girls were ready to come home so we quit pretty early; kinda like fishing! Brad

The rain did good things here in north Lawrence, picked 118 in a little wood lot about 50 yards from the house!! A lot of them were big and most all were very fresh, will go great with the crappie we caught at Clinton yesterday evening. Love this time of year:ThumbsUp
Lawrence area got more rain than we did down here at Lebo, but finding some. Not a bunch but good to go with asparagus out of the garden great combo.
Same here a little SW of Lebo. Not finding loads like usual. Did find one right next to the truck as I got out to hunt this morning.
