9am water temp was 37 at 3:30 it was 41 caught alot of 9.5 to 10" fish serveral near 12" kept 20 to eat probally caught 75 to 80 with 3 rods down once several times in the morning fish were 12 to 14 ft deep as sun came up and warmed water they came up to 4 ft deep and shallower

Nice report. We got about 25 or so keepers today off the bank but had to work a heck of a lot harder for em this time around. Not as big this time either.

They must be leaving it there to start the process towards bringing it up to summer pool. Rain coming later in the week so it will probably come up a good bit then too. I think they did this last year too and then we got a heavy rain one day and the lake was a flooded mess the entire month of April as a result.
The rain coming will probably slow things down. Went back yesterday afternoon and brought home 20 . Prob caught 70 fish all together.....fun times!!!!!
Same here. Had to fish right at red bridge this time due to the wind, first time i had ever fished this spot. Lot of people catching them. I fished from about 6 to dark. Wind is even worse today but i'll probably go later before all the rain comes and screws it up for a while.Quote:

West wind today didn't give me as much wind break at red bridge as yesterday. Still caught 30 or so but it was a lot slower bite. Caught 2 that went 12 inches, a lot of smaller ones. Forecast says 1-3 inches of rain up to Friday. Probably be a while before i fish again.
Hope they miss the rain forecast....you prob didn't have to do alot of jiggin did you the white caps did the work...lolQuote:

Yep, I was getting 45*-46* in that choco milk water. Like smokercraft said lots of debris is water. Oh, and more rain coming sun/mon, whoppee !!!! :Doh:
Looks like we may have lucked out on the rain. They were predicting a half inch to an inch and we got nowhere even close to that amount. More chances though on Friday and next Sunday. May get snow tonight. Missy is dropping a foot and a half or so every day.
I have been watching the levels and rainfall closely too. You're right we might luck out and turn this spring bite around yet. Fingers crossed.:highfiveQuote:

Seems for whatever reason they are holding the lake level at 732' which is only 5' from summer pool. The Wabash is down to 4 1/2' and Missy river at 2'. Took a buddy that i havent seen in over a year out today we kept 40 from 9 inches to 11 inches for my buddys easter dinner water temp was 50 to 53 and stained
Tried the lake yesterday for a few, didn't get anything. Should be getting close though especially with these warm days. Water still a bit dirty but has cleared up a lot since last time i was there. Stopped below the dam for a few on way home, seen quite a few caught. I caught 10 or so in the short time i was there but tossed em all back. I'm going to try again on Sunday. Heard good reports a few days ago from up river near the 1812 area but last i heard most of those fish had left when the cold temps hit. Would have liked to have seen them let more of the water down myself. Seems like ever since the drought year they are real paranoid about not getting to summer pool. Even earlier this spring they were keeping it 6 feet above winter pool.Quote:

Yep, something happened from Friday to Saturday; east wind or cold front. Bite was much slower Sat. morning than it was Friday evening. I was getting 51*-53* in the morning up around hogsback. Water was still pretty stained and higher than I like to see, only small muddy steep short area on bank to fish from, be careful. Wind was horrible, I was in a small 10' jon and fought it all morning. Fish were scattered and bite was light and slow. Doesn't look like they are going to lower the lake any more at this point so,:Doh: high and stained is what it's going to be from here on out.:banghead I'm told the spillway has been pretty good this past week, may try there today.Quote:

I skipped the spillway, way to many people for me. Your story reminded me why I haven't fished the spill way in 10 years. I hit hogsback this after noon and manage a limit of 10 inchers. Much better fishing today, warmer and less windy. Rain and storms come in Mon. night then a cold front, most likely will slow the bite till next weekend.
Anyone been to missy lately with updated temps? Thanks
I was at Hogsback Mon. getting 56* on the stained water, still high. I imagine after the last few nights it has dropped back to the 51*-53* range.

Trying to find Crappie from Hogsback to upstream. All I'm getting is male white bass. 30 the last two days.
I think this cold snap has slowed them down and scattered them. The white bass seem more willing to bite but they seem scattered also, haven't really got into a big school of them yet. Weather dosen't look promising through next week, low 60's with rain and wind :Doh:
Fished the lake yesterday with a boat this time. Water temps were from low to mid 50s. Could not buy a bite anywhere early. Finally found some fish in the evening in the back of a cove. Seen a lot of them hitting the surface so went with a bobber and tube jg setup a foot deep and started getting them. Highlight of the day, a 14 incher that was very fat. I had seen a fish hit the surface, casted to the spot immediately, and the bobber was gone as soon as it hit the water. While cleaning the fish i seen it had engulfed a huge shad minnow.
Outing yesterday around hogsback resulted in a few more white bass, no crappie. 2 guys fishing tubes and minnows got 1 white bass. Water a little more stained after the morning rains. Not as much surface activity as seen on Thursday.
Upstream or down? I'm guessing down.

I was getting around 59*-61* , limited out Friday and Sat, size ran 9"-11" , only kept the ones 10" and above, and threw a lot back. Never got into the bigger ones, like in years past. None had turned "black" so not sure how close they are to spawning. Timing was key, bite would go from nothing, to slow, to almost every cast for 30-40 minutes, to slow again, then just stop. I sent a friend out later in the day and he only caught ten. Glad to see the DNR out Sat. checking things out. A lot of rain with storms coming this week followed by cooler temps so looks like this will be it for a while. Was really hoping to get into a school of white bass, but they were really scattered and random.

Finally caught a break yesterday afternoon and was able to get out. Fished the main lake down from Red Bridge. Water temps 55. Spider Rigged 6-10 feet deep, caught fish in 12 to 30 feet of water. Couldn't find anything in less than 12 feet of water. Most productive depth was 12-17 feet. Probably caught 50-75 fish between 2 and 7 in the afternoon, kept 10 for my grandkids, they love fresh fish. Fish ran fro 8 to 11". Most productive color was electric chicken, but also caught decent fish on a white pearl and a black/smoke glitter minnow type bait, also a yellow body with white and red tail tube. No minnows, only used crappie nibbles.
Fished back in goose creek last evening from the bank. Probably caught 70 or so, kept 20 about 9-10 inches not really any big fish this time around. Was catching them on minnows and a slip as well as a tube jig. I was catching a lot of black crappie up close to the bank but none had started to turn that dark color they get during spawn. Best bite for me was the last hour to hour and a half before dark. Almost every cast during that time period. Forecast this week is terrible, 2 inches or more of rain. Probably enough to get the water real high and kill off a bunch of spawn when it happens and they lower the water afterward. Maybe we will get lucky with it being dry and the rivers so low that the lake wont get ridiculously high for too long.
This was true for me also. I caught all mine casting and retrieving a 1/16 oz. Road Runner. Seems the 9"-11" size has been the normal this year, wonder where all those 12"-14" fish are at ? This rain and storms are going to wreck it if we get what they say.Quote:
