If anyone is having trouble reaching Crappie.com, let me know.

There are apparently some DNS server issues somewhere in the network. I do not know how widespread it may be, but if you hear of anyone having this trouble, I may can help them with a temporary fix. It apparently started sometime this morning when we weren't able to access crappie.com and a few other sites. Just awhile ago, I did some checking and made a dns server change. This fixed our problem. I then switched back to the original servers and am seeing the same problem.

Let me know if anyone hears of crappie.com not being reachable.

I spoke with Shuorc down here in Florida, he reported similar issues. RCC told me his problems were with the Centurylink DNS servers and Shuorc uses centurylink too.

One way to get around Internet DNS issues is to point your browser directly to my server and not use DNS. The following URL does exactly that:

http://64.79.75.186/~crappie

Only if I move to a new server will that IP address change. And I don't have plans to do so anytime soon.

Actually, try this one instead of the above link:
http://64.79.75.186/~gewb

and that one will send you to my server and display my Boston Terriers (and also Billbob if you scroll a little down).

The one above that ends in ~crappie is a url redirect which will go to http://www.crappie.com/crappie/content.php but that URL will not resolve either (if their is a DNS problem).

And if that does fix your problem and it's a DNS issue, here's a fix to use Google's DNS servers on your PC instead of Centurylink's.

" If you're able to access certain sites right now, I have found a fix that'll eliminate the need for using CenturyLinks DNS servers. You'll still have their internet but won't use their DNS servers. Fixed my issues with not being able to access my corporate site. First, go to Control Panel, then Network and Internet, then Network and Sharing Center then on the left side there's a menu. Select Change adapter settings. This is where it gets tricky... If you're using a wired connection you should see something that says Local Area Connection and it should say Connected or something along those lines. If you're using a Wireless connection then you'll see the network id that you're connected to... Right click it. Choose Properties. Once the window comes up select Internet Protocol Version 4 and click Properties. You'll see some information there. What you'll need to do is select Use the following DNS server addresses and then put in 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Then select OK and then Close. This will put you using Googles DNS servers which haven't had an issue in a very long long time. Plus, they cache information quicker! Let me know if you're having any issues with this, I can setup a remote session with you and we can get it working."

The instructions are a little different on Win 8, but Olesilverside just did the same by setting his DNS servers to Google's as above (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and it worked. He was actually on the phone with Centurylink and they acknowledged problems with their DNS servers. So I don't know how to get the word out, but if members are using Centurylink for their Internet Service Provider, and are having problems getting at Crappie.com, then need to follow those instructions and change their DNS Server Settings on their PC.

I was going to switch to Century Link but the more I hear the more I will keep what I have. The way they have treated me is not a good start for their service. EB

This should be corrected as of 12:05 today. There is another way to change DNS if needed and that is to do it in the dsl router.

Just enter the ip address of the router in your browser to access the router page. Go to advanced settings select, wan, then, select vc settings. On different routers, the screen may look different. Look down the screen, if you see a dynamic dns and a static dns, select static and enter the above number for the servers (primary 8.8.8.8 and secondary 8.8.4.4). If you look down the page and you see the primary and secondard dns set to 0.0.0.0, change these to the above numbers. Save this and you will be good to go.

Again, I just checked this today and as of noon, it had been fixed and the above should not be needed.

A little about century link, I have been with them for about 5 years and have the $20 extra a month maintance plan, glad I do, yesterday I called in and a tech said I had malware and wanted $119 to clear it up, told him to shove it up his you know what, called back this am and got a real nice girl and within 7 min. she had me up and going....depends a lot on which tech you get for help, some are like me and don't know tittly twat about this stuff and others know there stuff........

My eyes glazed over and I quit paying attention about the time I got to "DNS Server". I hope I didn't miss anything important. :Doh:
