my daughter is an official outdoorsman!

Kat, my 5 year old, has been bugging me to take her on the Missouri river to catch some catfish. I occasionally take her along to catch bait, and her job is to sort the small shad from the big shad, toss the small ones back and put the bait in the livewell. but she decided it's time to graduate to bigger fish. so I took her out on this chilly, windy day and she managed to catch the first fish, a 7lb channel cat. a short while later another fish on but she didn't want to reel it in, she wanted me to catch one. so I did and it was a blue about 15lbs. I took her picture, she took my picture, and her fish came home for supper tonight! tomorrow her and I are headed to the woods to scout turkeys and disc up a food plot. and she wants to drive the tractor. good times!Attachment 156449

Thanks, Travis! and she knows no life vest, no boat ride. she never complains about it because she has been wearing one since her first summer when I toted her around the river in a punkin seat!

Kat and I appreciate all your comments, she loves to look at all the pictures you guys post of big crappies, and she was thrilled when I showed her that I posted our trip today. in the morning, she will probably make me read all the replies to her, Lol!

close, it's a dora the explorer pole. but it was along more for her to practice casting and give her something to do while we waited on a bite. lol, that reel doesn't even hold enough line to reach the bottom in some areas I fish, but I did have it baited with shad guts just in case...
last year I took her to troll crankbaits at truman and she caught several nice crappies on that pole, believe it or not the poles troll quite well but the reel leaves something to be desired.

Man that's awesome her going and catching fish too cant beat a day like that.

That's fantastic Greg. Glad to see your girl enjoys it and catching makes it even better...and catching a nice big catfish....better still.

I have a very similar Barbie pole in my boat for my youngest, my other girl has been able to out cast many men with a spinning rig since she was about 9. She's 12 now and is starting to get girlier and wanting to fish less. Enjoy your little girl while you can.

Great job. You did better than us. Couldn't find much on the Gasconade. Saw a couple pull 7 off of a trotline just above where we were fishing.

Took my now 18 month old out for her first boat ride late last summer and you could see her eyes light up. Hope to get the fish in her blood sometime soon!
