Not I, sorry!
ok, the jighooks have been shipped so it will be a couple days. I ordered the size 4 for the kiptail jigs I tie, sometimes the extra lite wire will come in handy around brush, and also the barb on that hook looks big enough to help keep a minnow on the hook, hooked just behind the lips, for times when I am fishing open water with crappie nibbles on the hook, matzuo's work great for that.
Let us know what you think of them once you get them!!!
ok, will do.
If they are as sharp as there light wire aberdean hook they will be great. I have gone to all blue mustad on my minnow hooks. They are sticky sticky sharp. Still use sickle hooks for all of my jigheads.
i'm waiting for the package anxiously.
I have them in size 4 and 2. Haven't got to fish with them yet but they are sharp and poured with no problems.
Ok, just wanted to check in with ya'll as the size 4 extra lite wire mustad's came today. I took 2 out of the package and looked them over, for an aberdeen bend extra lite wire jighook with the old style beaked point, non chemically sharpened, they are perfect. they are super super sharp for this style point and they grab, scratch into my thumbnail when dragged across it with no pressure. they are beautifully finished in a medium to dark bronze finish and the ones I have checked are perfectly formed with closed eyes, perfect 90 degree bends, and everything is just proportionally perfect as far as I can see, I am very very happy with them at this point. I am going to examine some more tonite and make sure they are all perfect. I really like the beaked old style point. just eyeballing them without holding them up against a 570 I think they may be just a tad longer in the shank but not much and the bend is really fully round till it makes the bend towards the point. real real nice, and I think mustad did a very good job on these. for an aberdeen bend extra lite wire jighook for crappie, I can't see how they could have done any better. I wanted these for fishing around brush and also because the normal sized barb will hold a minnow on the back of my jig better than a sickle. with these mustads for brushy situations and the sickles for open water we are gonna have all the bases covered. will get back later after examining a few more of them. I was worried about them being sharp enough to satisfy me as I have been unhappy with some of mustads sharpness these last few years but not to worry, these are about as sharp as you can get in an old style point, I'm very happy with them so far.
Ok I just looked over about another 20 of them real closely checking sharpness on each one along with checking the eyes and the 90 degree bends and the consistency of length of the 90 leg and the consistency of shape from one to another and I have to give them a grade of A+, in the 20 or so I checked, to my eyes with reading glasses on and laying them on a white sheet of paper so I could see them better, they are consistant from one to another in every way, and the sharpness on each was awesome. I just ordered another box of 4's, it kind of looks like they are hard to find at this point unless you can purchase from shorty's which I can't. I can see these shining while fishing lilly pads and wood etc.
Hey redear
Great report - can't wait to hear how they fish!!! Can you take one and get it wet and let it sit out and see how they're going to be as far as rusting?? That was a problem they had going for a while, hope the new ones are better.
yeah I can try that, I'm sure they will rust with what i'm gonna use them for which is hair jigs, heck when ya put a hair jig away the hair holds enough moisture for long enough to really do a job on a bronze hook. but these things are really fine wire and real sharp, I can picture just not having to set the hook just start reeling with a little pressure, I like that as 4lb. test is mostly what I use and my rods don't have alot of backbone, and when you hold the hook up it isn't real visible, it's color and extra fine wire would practically make it dissapear in a hair jig or any jig. heck I gotta put reading glasses on just to check out the point and barb etc. so it is just really different when compairing it to other hooks. I'm sure a guy could lose a big crappie with them if he was putting considerable pressure on the fish with 6lb. line, just gotta remember what kind of hook ya got.
Who knows maybe not!! I've got the wool and satins (white wool/chartreuse satin fibers) that I got alot of small bass on last year and there is not rust or light spots on them (black chrome sickles). Be nice to see what happens.
just recieved my second box of these yesterday from jason's tackle and hope to maybe pour a few and tie them up, these are size 4's.
I fished the size 4's in this hook the other day for the first time and they did great, I only caught about a dozen fish as the bite was slow. these things hook up very well and they penetrate with ease even with 4lb line and a limber rod all I did most the time was start reeling and I had the fish. I'm glad I bought 2000 of these to start with, it definitely wasn't a mistake with how they performed, just ordered 300 size 2's and I have a few molds they will be perfect for.
Great to hear!!!!!!!
I had two hair jigs that I had used and cut off, and when I got home I laid them out to dry and after a few daysI inspected them for rust, they were in good shape with no rust so this is promising in order to get more than one use out of a jig.
That is really good to hear!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for all the info
Awsome report on the hooks. Thanks. I'll have to check them out.
I'm hoping the 300 size 2's I ordered will be here today, will give a let ya know about how these look too. I see captain hooks has these hooks now but they aren't coming close to jasons prices, plus you have something like 8 dollars shipping with them, just wish Jason had the 2's in 1000 boxes, he did have some earlier but I drug my feet and missed out on those, so had to go for the 100 packs.
ok the size 2,s came today and I poured about 85 heads with mostly one cavity molds. I like the 2's also, and they are quite a bit bigger than the 4's. I don't usually use size 2's but I can see me using this one on the heavier 1/16 and 3/32 heads. the quality was perfect in every hook I poured today. these have the curved beak like point just like the 4's, and they are plenty sharp. gonna tie up some kiptails with these for a buddy that spider rigs after they are painted up.
